My All State Jazz Band Audition
Finally got my cd in the mail of my jazz band audition I recorded back in September. I made first chair tenor sax for the area jazz band and I got 17th / 84 for the state jazz band. We had to play a latin song, a swing song, and improv solos over a slow and swing song. I thought I might post the two tracks of my solos since I haven't ever really had anything to post in here before. Luckily we were able to practice the solos beforehand. If it was an on-the-spot improv I probably would not have done as good lol.
Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!
For anyone that plays tenor sax, or any sax for that matter, heres my setup;
Selmer Paris S90 1.80mm tip
LaVoz Medium Hard (used on riff rovistation) / Medium Soft (used on last set) reed.
I get my tone by taking rough sand paper and sanding down the top of the reed until I get a nice flat surface, then I go over it with fine sandpaper. NEVER touch the bottom of the reed!
If you haven't done it already, I would recommend buying a full box of reeds and spending a weekend sanding down reeds and working on your tone. Also, mouthpieces help a lot! It might seem like a hassle, but in the end your tone will be greatly improved if you're serious about playing.

Re: My All State Jazz Band Audition
I personally favor the selmer larry teal for classical/symphonic band, and a meyer 5 for jazz. That and vandorean's 4's for classical, and 2 1/2 - 3 V16 version. I'm going to head for bed now, but tomorrow I'll take a listen to your tape :)

Re: My All State Jazz Band Audition
I've tried a meyer 6 on bari and didn't really like it. I might get a meyer 5 or 6 for tenor and see how that plays, although I've grown real fond of my selmer.
