good instrument.
here are a few lessons
1.) stay away from actualy "tabs"
2.) never buy a squier
3.) never buy a crate amp
4.) keep is funky :D
this is an excellent starter/intermediate bass:

also for an amp just get whatever besides a crate, i have a crate and hate it (was a gift...)
you can get a real nice behringer 120watt for like 150-200 bucks.
im glad you decided about playing the bass, 3 years strong for me and no regrets.
i recommend a peavey.
right now i have a customized fender p bass (everything ended up over 500 bucks when i was done)
it has a nice powerful midrange sound (for slap and pop bass).
but for starting out and playing regular music, i recommend peavey for its nice low deep sound.

well a behringer 120watt is the same as your run of the mill 50 watt.
and behringer is the best bang for the buck for the bass.
so why not get more for your money?
Umm if you really want to learn base just buy the cheap stuff for now. squier is a good Product to have, but is not good to stick with.
squier is never good to have.
