Too Many Damn Labels in Music?

Anyone notice this bullshit? Theres like so many labels for bands, groups, artists ect... for example if you hear a band screaming and what not ppl say one of 3 things "rock, screamo, metal" and then other ppl argue over of its "*metal*" such as metalcore, deathmetal, ect... and then when you hear rap, its either hip hop, rap, gangster rap ect... why can't it just be music damn? its quite annoying idk wtf metal even is cause of too much crap hell ppl even say screamo is emo? :S wdf kinda shit is that? I listen to bands that scream ect... does that make me "emo"? no and another thing labels in people too like emo, chav, they're all stupid in my opinion but this is a music discussion board, anyways it just ticks me off all these useless labels that make no sense cause people argue over them and what not, I just rather listen to my music and just call it rock, rap, and what not instead of wasting my time calling it, screamo to get bitched at and be told that its metal or metalcore or whatever the hell they wana tell me my music is :S anyways I'm very talkitive today xD ~ Moogly Long sotry short : Music has a lot of labels and they're annoying cause ppl just argue on what label / categorie an artist / artists fall under and its quite annoying...

Anyways my question is don't you think the exessive amount of labels is useless cause people just keep making up labels and labels its like the linux community ppl just keep making distros no1 knows whats what :S

Try pressing enter while you're writing...

While i'm not saying there aren't too many, i do think it should be much wider then just rock, rap etc, i like rock, but not hardrock etc.
There are definetly differences between the labels music get, some differences are quite small, while others are definetly large, and it does allow people to look more for their own taste instead of getting lots of music they don't like at all.

Rap is probably the hardest to keep up with. Theres: BayArea, Southside, Westcoast, EastCaost, French Rap, Uk Rap, then all 6 of those split into different section like 713, 404, and then theres mixtapes. Also millions of Dj's that rep different areas.

Lol. I'm sorry this just made me laugh. Your talking about putting labels on rap based on where they are from. I'm sorry but even though I hate rap...it's still considered music by a lot of people (even though technically it isn't) and you can't label something based on where they are from or you'd have millions of labels for every music genre.

Labeling music and categorizing them into the correct genre of music is one of the most difficult things to do. But, it is very necessary for the sole reason that people don't label music falsely and advertise it as such.

A great example would be Slipknot. THEY ARE NOT METAL. They have metal elements in their music yes, but that does not make them metal. They have many more hardcore elements than metal. Thus, I give credit to them for being one of the original and most popular metalcore bands. Kudos, but they aren't metal.

If you want to talk about the most diverse type of music in genre, then I'd have to say Rock and Metal have the most genres. Technically speaking, and then followed by either Jazz or Country.

I think Metal is the most divided, you get Doom, Black, Death, Nu and all sorts of Deathcore, Deathgrind things. :)

Son.... you don't want me to start telling you about Rock sub-genres, especially when we'll get to metal and all it's different kinds.... you REALLY don't what me to do that... it'll just never end.
