mcr and dashboard aren't emo. they go under the horrible pop rock genre.
    and "emo" doesn't mean emotional.
99.9% of bands make music to illicit emotion which would make "emotional" a completely all-encompassing genre from classical to opera to pop to rap.
    onemorespoon.

I believe emo stands for emotional.

    you're missing my point.

and what DO you all think "emo" means anyway?
people associate the term "emo" with people with tight pants, side-swept hair, and cutting themselves but that's just what MTV has led you to believe. the interweb, actually.

anyway, as i said before, if emo music is emotional music then Beethoven and Britney Spears are emo.

LoL The Used is from my state.
Orem, Utah, they went to my middle school and part high school. my older brother met the early band members (he went with school with them) stoped hanging out with them once he found out they are drugies...lol Total emo, but some songs are good :)

Music is a matter of opinion, the words shouldn't affect the music as for music is the sounds from the instruments. And for the "emo message" isn't any worse then the "rap messages" out there. Personally I like punk rock which includes emo bands like in my avatar (Aiden) One of my favorite bands. No reason to doubt or hate on a type of music because you are just saying you are to ignorant to enjoy the music and let the words affect you.

Hate? Hate is such a strong word.
I don't hate emo music. I mean, softcore emo is pretty good on some occassions. Usually reinforced by their instrumentals. But on a lot of emo songs, their lyrics don't prove justice to the instrumentals =/
Could be used for a lot better written songs.

But yeah, some of MCR's song's I do like.
    Not afraid to admit it.
I think it's not the lyrics, as I don't really listen to their lyrics much (Apart from 'Teenagers') but like I said, the instrumentals. Aren't awesome, but they aren't bad.

And I think now, a lot of people are just spouting this parroted crap "omg i hate emo music" because people of a higher rank (DaCheat, for example) don't consider emo music to be of their preference.

    Die lemmings, die :)

Re: What Can you Say To Emo Songs?

Come to think of it, I know very few songs which involve talking about self harm... Funny this, when 90% of people say "Go slit your wrists you fucking emo" when they hear my music... When it's metal or hardcore that I'm actually listening too.. and then they try to argue that their music is better, when they're only argument is that "It sounds better"
    sigh..

Lol off topic sorta, but anyways. Emo has been stereotyped SO bad it's not funny, Emo's can actually be really fun to hang around, usually fun, happy people, Just thought I'de add that

    Cheers, Exploit.

Re: What Can you Say To Emo Songs?

Emo music is music that has emotional lyrics, that's all.
If somebody looks like an emo (according to everybody's stereotypes), then they are assumed to be self-harming.
I think that this is a bit unfair tbh, I mean, I look slightly emoish, I listen to heavy metal, screamo, death metal etc. and I don't self harm, I'm actually quite a happy person
Some of the people who do self-harm do it for attention mostly and some do it as a means of dealing with their problems, everyone has their own way of dealing with problems.

But anyway.. some emo music is ok, musically
look at Bring Me The Horizon for example, they have quite emo lyrics but they're music is basically deathcore stuff lol

    I don't talk to songs...

Pretty much neutral, if the song makes sense - I like it, if it doesn't - I don't.
