black metal - satyricon, dark funeral
melodic death metal - in flames, at the gates
folk metal - some bathory and ensiferum fits into this aswell
heavy metal - lamb of god, mudvayne
math metal - mudvayne, they use complex beats hence...math metal
nu metal - slipknot...
hair metal - iron maiden, judas priest
power metal - dragonforce!!!!
goth metal - nightwish, charon, HIM
metalcore - god forbid defines this perfectly
(mix of hardcore punk and metal)
deathcore (mix of death metal and metalcore) - fear my thoughts
progressive metal - angra, racer x, queensryche, dream theater
thrash - slayer...testament...the haunted...you get the picture
viking metal - ensefirum!!!!
pagan metal - mostly in swedish...cant understand a damn word
grindcore...which sucks except for napalm death
crustcore...which sucks...period
death grind REALLY SUCKS!!!
brutal death...essentially grindcore but there are actual guitar riffs
epic metal (usually a hybrid form. there can be epic black, epic power, epic viking...etc.) epic progressive band ANGRA is a very very good example.
symphonic metal (hybrid form aswell...usu lots of choirs and orchestral instruments. well dimmu borgir is symphonic melodic black metal if that makes any sense...
death/black - good examples are deicide/behemoth, i dont know if it is the guys voice all by itself.

but usually there is a high pitched shriek with a low growl and it makes this drony demonic sound

then the rare melodic black metal, very very few bands pull this off, but 2 very famous ones have.
