well it all depends on the sound you want.

as for me i like an acoustic to have that "bite" to it.

id choose a mid range ibanez.

it all depends what you want, rough or soft sound.

    i like the rough sound.

my dad has this custom built taylor guitar that sounds amazing, drawback is its $2,500 -_-.

Yeah if you're just starting out get an Acoustic. Then when you're good with that you can swich to electric.

I use a Fender DG-22CE BLB for my acoustic, and a Fender Strat. for my electric. Both awesome guitars.

-Edit- I just read your price range...Soooo you wont be able to get these guitars. Sorry :(

played The Guitar for 17 years now :)
Get a Biginer Ibanez kit, Ibanez is a good Acustic-Electric Guitar to get. I use to have 1 Gorgeous Black and blue Acustic Eletric Guitar when I was 9 Until it broke couple years ago, Everytime I played it I get that smoth and hard sound mixed. One of the best guitar out there :)

kk, i play guitar for a few years now, i have 1 takamine, 1 12 string ovation, 1 jeorge washburn special edition and some minor brand guitars, now if u want some clean sound ill advise u the takamine, it's smooth and the sound is very VERY good.
