    Security of Server and Website

Hello everyone. The bigger private server problem seems to be protection.
I'm wonder how crap servers are still up when good servers getting hacked. Some of you maybe know Mu4Kings problems. It seems a serious server but some hackers put big problems to it.
Some ragezoners would like to discuss here the basic and advanced security methods/systems.
So is anything to do to keep 100% safe your website and server?

EDIT: Thread created special for server owners or for those that want to make a server.
Read carefully. Some post may help you to not getting hacked.

Change all ports, get ddos protection (the real thing), get premium antihack, get antihack on server side, make sure your computer is clean as it might become a target to get your passwords, encrypt the client and dll's with powerful encryptions, put the website on remote connection, hardware firewall, software firewall, make sure you only enable the NAT IP's on the needed files, changing the serial and enabling autoupdate can help a bit, 1gbps connection, pay a hacker to find you security holes, pay for the ones that find a security hole after server is online and that don't abuse it, make sure you don't have more vaults or guild vault

This is something I got from the top of my head... etc.

what about paying a php coder to check again MuCore files and if it has holes to fix them?
What would be the best and safety dedicated server host for server and website?

An home dedicated server can't be better protected than a datacenter one?cause you have full access to operating system? You can do install/config anything as you wish.

Dedicated server at home doesn't exist, you can do whatever you want on your server anyway with KVM.

A good dedicated server, it depends on your budget, a good one can be found between 100$ and 1000$ (for MuOnline needs).

Also @jodex007, I don't think all the nulled scripts have security holes...

I think mu core is very good if you know how to config/protect it.
Hosting website on different host/machine than server is plus of security?

Guys, which anticheat is the best on the market in your opinion? I mean, with good protection and good compatibility to be used with a already encrypted gs-client?
There is a bunch of ways to hack in s6 besides proxy, like memory editors, agility editors, overclock...

Work alone helps too, or in any case, work with serious people.

Almost everyone do in this way... Web in a separated host...
Also as you ask before, maybe a home dedicated server could be better if you have a good conection. Also you can use a old computer as a hardware firewall, i dunno how much effective it is, but is a possibility anyway.

Yeah, this is a good thing to do. If you can't manage the server by yourself, only give acess to ppl that you really trust, preference to those who you know from "real life" cuz you can always pound if something happens :P

Operating system...does matter? Windows Server is more protected than Windows 7 ? Should we choose Windows Server 2008 instead of Windows Server 2003? This action is applied to MSSQL versions?
Does these matter for security? I personally think latest OS and software are more protected. But most of coders still work on Win Server 2003 with MSSQL 2000. :|

You can never compare a home computer with a good dedicated server. NEVER

Also there aren't a lot of servers that use different host for web... 95% of muservers use webserver on mainserver

Windows 7 is a client OS, so I don't recomend it for MuServer.

Here on Brazil your argument is right, cuz a good link and a structure compared to a dedicated server is too much expensive for us. But for a big network like some of the most known servers, in another countrys, it must be a good way to save some money in a mid-long term plus a better management of the server.

Well, i really dunno how the servers from ragezone members are doing it, but all the last brs GOOD servers are doing in this way...
