OpenMU Launcher - Open source and personalizable launcher

Hi guys, i've been away from MU since 99b, but now I bring to you my launcher that I made back then, now with the source code. I updated the source to RAD Studio XE3, originally in Delphi7.

The launcher is 90% editable without programming knowledge by changing logo image and texts in the resource folder of the launcher.




As you can see at the image below, you can edit or remove the logo.png and change the lines of config.txt.



Features:
- Can change logo image or even delete the file to don't show logo.
- Can change the texts of servername ant etc, translating the launcher to your language.
- Can read and write registry. When you open, the stats of the checkboxes reflect the actual registry entries.
- Enable windowmode by reg windowmode=1.
- Can change the command to open main.exe to almost anything at the text file.
- Can change the website, or put some other command.


If you are not a developer and want to change other things at txt file or something, tell me and i'll enable the personalization.

no auto update?

We can think about that. There is a lot of ways to do that.
Maybe with a link to a zip package, and to verify if it is updated consult some page of you with date of last update and a registry entry with the date of last update.
If the date on the html page is newer than the one at registry, it re-download the zip file.

The only con is that the user can bypass the update just editing the registry. It is stupid, I know, but there is no way to softcode the process without being 'bypassable'.

With hardcoded (unchangeable) verification we could verify filesize, modification date, etc, and make bypass very difficult. But hardcoded info needs to be programmed before the launcher compilation and not in a text file.

Hmmm it works comparing the MD5 of all files you define. It's a good way besides the fact that if you have too many files it will make the launcher process to slow down. Cus every time it will check if the files are updated, file by file.

But again, it will only works if the launcher is not open code. Even if I use some kind of encripting like P4F do (data.p4f) any hacker could just open the source code, view the way it works, uncript the file, see your ip and port, and connect with any other launcher without update.

Even that would be not a security feature, it is a nice utility for the players. I'll try to make an approach for that close to P4F at the weekend.

The point of having an AutoUpdater is avoiding drop out of the users because of annoying patchs, so... there is no point on trying to secure the autoupdate, with a crc32 check is enough.

1st, this is an International Board, and we all Speak ENGLISH here, get used to it. Im from Argentina and barely speak spanish here.- (and if i do, i post an english translation too, its a matter of respect towards the rest of the community.-)
2nd, this thread is over 4 months old.....you can look for better launchers now. (no offense, this one is good too, but no autoupdate is a huge pain for server-owners.)

1ero, Este foro es internacional, aca hablamos ingles, acostumbrate, yo soy argentino y hablo ingles siempre, sino pongo una traduccion en ingles, por respeto al resto de la comunidad.
2do, este tema tiene mas de 4 meses sin actividad, hay mejores launchers dando vueltas ahora...este no tiene auto-update...es bueno, pero incomodo :).
