    Server Benchmark S6EP3 - 3 Servers On 1 Machine

Hi! This is for those who want to gauge their hardware requirements for their server setup. Below is our benchmark for 3 MU servers running intermittently on one of our test servers with the following specs:

    • Windows 2008 32Bit
    • 4 Threads 2 cores @ 1.80Ghz
    • CPU: Intel Atom D525
    • 4gb ram
    • 1 TB SSD Hard Drive
    • No Raid
    • 100Mbps Connection

The server is running solely the MU server files PLUS MSSQL Server Enterprise 2000. This benchmark does not include Apache/Other web servers/MySQL/PHP.

    Server files specs:

    • 3 Clusters 1 servers each
    • 8000 mobs (gs & cs)
    • Server files type: Mixed
    • No Virus

I hope this release will be useful for the starters. Don't overspend on dedi budget. :)

    Thanks!

    Best regards,
    Locomoto

Your benchmark is not accurate at all. Once your database grows 4GB of RAM will be very little if you still want fast queries. The best thing to do as a starter is to get a low-budget dedicate and constantly generate reports of performances (windows got tools for that) and when there is need for upgrade do it.

As a side note SSD is not a must for a muonline server, more likely the entire database will be in memory already so there is no performance impact on HDD vs SSD.

Also there is no need for super-extra-ultra high bandwidth connection for a muonline server, 10mbps guaranteed will be more than enough of server files alone. A player needs like 3kb/s (highly active player). Better spend the extra money for flood protection.

Conclusion: spend the money where is needed not where it sounds cool!

Thanks for clarifying this, I wasn't aware of the minimal network requirement it's certainly a shock to me that a 10mbps port connection can provide a good network reception for an MU server. In addition to this, you can also improve your network speed by picking the correct location to host your server in.

What is recommended action to get fast query result for big databases?

    Thanks!

P.s. future benchmark will be added on top of the list.

If you create and maintain the right indexes and provide enough RAM memory for caching MSSQL will respond very well.

You will notice database lag when you open vault for example(or when you login) and it's annoying to wait few seconds for the vault to open.
