angry Englifying the thai client - Tutorial talk & Item Descriptions?

So I've found where all of the text is stored, except when Pippin talks in the Tutorial, and more importantly... the item descriptions...

Where the hell are they stored??? (the item descriptions and Pippin's tutorial talk)... so far I have everything else in English including the normal in-game caddie talk.

I tried searching for various phrases in the .exe and stuff I extracted from the .pak's but I can't find any of the item description text in them... unless windows "Search for word or phrase in a file" is broken and I should be using grep or strings on unix instead...

I would have thought it would have been in the thailand.dat/english.dat but apparently not...

Edit: Oh gawd... Item descriptions are in the pangya_th.iff file like I was AFRAID OF... more specifically Desc.iff this is going to be hell cause I doubt I can just drop the US one into there and have it work... will probably have to edit each Item's description manually... anyone else already done this??? :(

Edit2: The stuff in the US desc.iff isn't in even close to the same order as the thai desc.iff... and I can't read Thai so I don't know what to replace with what necessarily... *sigh*...

Still need to find where the Tutorial text is too

Pippin tutorial scripts are inside english.dat but if it didn't get use by the client then is weird.

    Extracted from english.dat sample:
    Code:
You cannot get very far without your basics! Lets learn about the basics of Pangya as well as how to choose a club!
That brings back the memory? ;)

Anyway, i'll work on the client to convert it into english ver after i got the server working. I've read your reply on other threads and i'll try work on it as much i can.

    Tutorial Talk is in data/round00_tuto/text/tutorial_text.txt
    Desc.iff isn't complicated.

You can replace with the US without problems, the description is shown by item ID and not Desc.iff order. There are only some sets that have the description 'changed' because of wrong ID, but this isn't a problem, it can be easily edited.

In Thai client it appear as in "projectg_tuto.pak" i unpak it and the "data/round00_tuto/text/tutorial_text.txt" file is there as Diovan said.

So the .dat file is not the right place to look into...

Thanks copying it right over seems to have worked, but the problem is now there is no wordwrap and the text looks very messy... any way to enable wordwrap? Or is that something unique to the US client?

I would release what I have now, but w/o wordwrap it looks all messy plus the "Distance To Flag:" images in data\2d\font\[ground_text*.jpg
don't display quite right... only thing I know to try is manipulating the image directly to make the text take up a smaller area like the original thai one...

I've tried copying over the ui/.xml files to see if it would help any but when I copy them all over and try to load it with a .pak like that it crashes the game.

Edit: anyone know an easy way to get rid of the "season 4 delight" icon that goes no where, as well as the Event Arin Birthday icon...? I just want them gone so people don't accidentally click them and screw things up.

Word wrap? Did you mean the game letters (text) looks strange, or the text is not aligned?

Season 4 and arin birthday icons can be removed editing Looby.xml
I uploaded my edited Looby.xml, get here if you want.
The screen will look like this: http://i53.tinypic.com/28153qr.jpg (s4 info, birthdays, xmas, go card icon, go self design icon and etc removed)

Thanks, and yes. Usually English versions of a game have the linefeed code changed so that the text automatically wraps right... languages like Japanese and Thai have no need for word wrap since they don't really use spacing between words like English or other languages that use a Roman alphabet. Either that or they carefully entered the text in such a way it had the correct spacing to display properly, but I'm guessing the English version of the client has wordwrap in the linefeed code.

I think you're on to something here, pancakelizard. The alphabet letters are much wider than the thai letters (in comparison) so I think the max. number of characters per line gets you whacky results when using alphabet only with this client.

Of course you can use normal linefeed (0x0A) in the texts to compensate for that. Easiest way is probably to insert a linefeed every X characters instead of letting the client handle that. It's also easy to automate.
