    Season 4.9 WAN Configuration

Hi, I just managed to set up the season 4.9 server files and everything seems to work fine, but I have a question.

Which IPs do I have to change in the config files in order to access the server? (WAN)

    Thanks in advance

To be safe just change ALL of them to your server's WAN IP... oh btw... I tried to get the thing to work behind NAT, but it doesn't like it. I had to turn off NAT and turn on IP Passthrough mode on my router to get it to work at home for users over the internet. Since then I put it up on a VM somewhere w/o NAT and I'm just using the external IP address pretty much everywhere 127.0.0.1 could be found in the various server .ini's.

The only thing I can figure is the loginserver is telling the client the ip address of the gameserver to connect to and if you configure it to use the LAN IP the client then it won't be able to connect to it from the outside.

I was going to start sniffing packets seeing if I could figure it out, but it seemed easier just to ditch NAT... although I'd bet my above theory is probably correct.

When it comes to the IP in the client, I have a xx.xx.xx.xxx IP which just rides up next to the "0" on the second IP part in the client.

In trying to debug a possible WAN setup (like when I go back to college, lol), is it alright for the IP to run up to that "0" (so it makes a xx.xx.xx.xxx0 in the hex display)?

Pankakelizard gave me some tips and I did as he said: I changed all my IPs to wan and it works just fine. But I had to remove the router and attach the server directly to the cable(it seems this server files don't get along with NAT)I'm testing a server with my friends and we play normally.

Ignoring NAT, I remember reading something for Cabal along the lines of "unless your router allows loopback, you can't do both LAN and WAN at the same time" where loopback is where the router considers your attempt at a "external" connection from inside the LAN to indeed be a external connection.

chumpy's guide explaining this better; look for "VMWare Networking Guide", page 9 of the PDF.

I could never get any attempt at Cabal to work, so I'm trying to test this issue myself here with Pangya, but my little IP issue above is annoying me.

Just for the sake of giving a somewhat full explanation: The Pangya server components will bind to the interface with the IP address specified in each components' configuration.

Meaning that if you're behind a router you cannot use your WAN IP in the configuration (you'll run into some strange error messages along the way).

I've demonstrated a setup with a SOCKS server before (which might be an option for some) but I've also read that people had success with DMZ configurations too (can't find the post right now, sorry!).

So running the server from behind a router is absolutely possible :)

Ah yes, I was going to give those options a try once I've exhausted my own ideas (but if you say there's a fundamental router issue using normal means, I might as well just jump to your SOCKS idea).

In that case what should be the IP/data HEXed in the client? LAN IP, WAN IP? Looks like LAN given your description, but if it's WAN, then:

For SOCKS it's the LAN IP, yes.

I'd be grateful if someone could explore the DMZ options or give some insight into running it when directly connected to the internet so we could formulate this into a nice guide.

Looks like a question that will pop up several times again :)

Well, Pangya is one of those games where you need a community of people to make it fun. Dress up only holds one interest so long...err... lol

DMZ is the best option for troubleshooting and bypass NATs but make your comp visible so is open for freestyle attack. Only use this option when you got a really bad router. (Like i used to have)

PING.EU This is one of the online tool i use to check if my server is accessible over the internet without a second user or comp. LAN test works doesn't mean internet works as well.
