    Anyways, yeh, 508 servers are failing so I'm working on one where you have to work for things, and it has quests + correct NPCs.

    I wouldnt go as far as saying 317 ftw, cause rsc is the best, but yeh xd

    Actually i use to host a 508 Private Server, uhm i think the video's are still up on youtube but i shut it down cuz it got really boring but the server was up about like i think 2 weeks and i got 1 full hamachi network people like the new type of stuff mine was based on that Jagex-Pk source.. uhm if you google/youtube search "[508] RushScape" it would be like the first video.. but as i said it is SHUTDOWN ..

    TehByte, I agree with you 120%. Although I've never been able to code, I do know the basic fundamentals to a successful server. If 508's can get skills like fletching, runecrafting, fishing, smithing, mining, and along those lines, it creates a system of checks and balances. Something like this...

    Fletching - You create the arrows, and you sell them and they get used up. You're not sitting there worrying about how there are way too many arrows on your server and that their price is plunging. It optomizes the PK experience because people have to work to get the supplies. All in all, its like a cycle. Gets created at one end and disposed at another, and in the middle, there is profit for the person who made the arrows, and there are costs for the people who buy them. Basic laws of economics.

    Runecrafting - Once again, the same thing as fletching. Gets created at one end and disposed at another with the profit and costs in the middle. Here we are copying the real Runescape's successful method of maintaining a decent economy in the server. The thing you don't want to do is be able to type "::runes" and get 100 of each rune. This not only has no costs/profits involved to stimulate the economy, it also produces an excess amount of runes for those people who sit there and type "::runes" for 3 hours.

    Same thing with fishing, mining, and smithing. They produce markets for the diffrent products and once things get into the cycle of production and consumption, you have your server's basic economy set.

    You also want to keep an eye on the drops, making sure that you dont have too much of something dropping. You want to keep some items rarer than others so you make them drop less often. I know you're sitting there going like whats this guy talking about? This is basic server knowledge! But you'd be surprised to know how many servers don't do this, and they end up failing.

    508s can be the best private servers ever if worked at correctly. Ive seen the coding and the bases are messy but someone like GhostSnyper who is dominant about clean coding can fix this with one single release, and then we can only move forward from there.

    And TehByte, if you are working on a server, I can help you set up the economy for it if you want. Meaning I can lay out like a map of where what NPC/Monster should go and what they should drop and in what amount. Prices and rates I can also help with. Surprisingly, my economics class helps a lot when it comes to this stuff.

    That would be quite nice,
    I'm also trying to make a stable server that is nothing like all these others, it shall have virtually NO commands, everything shall be done through NPC dialogue, or some processes throughout the site which shall be done via MySQL.
    I'm also hoping to get a system like runescape has where prices change on every update (when the server restarts) that would be quite nice.
    But anyway, if you could help me with the economy that would be great! But I shall add trading and shops first? :D

    I had not even been paying attention to RZ lately, but i saw this post, cought my attention..

    508's could be the most stable servers out there if there done right, most people just throw a couple variables here and there and call it good, maybe a couple extra interfaces, couple nullpointers, and a good old fashioned (catch exeption error) at the bottom Ghostsnypers base is a very good example of how servers should be coded, with a very nice error catching system, I have started to try to add a more complex error catching system myself, all attempts have mostly failed.
    People need to stop just using tut's and start learning from a source, analyze the data, and stop using two bit methods of "rs2 coding" that are hardly even compatable in some other sources, did you know that delta has two sendMessage variables? sendMessage, and sM.. thats so its user friendly, for people that just go off releases and tuts.

    People should learn some of the basics before owning there own server, like how to change the name on the server. If you cant even do that then you have no business owning your own server. Unless your learning from the source, running it offline from good old 0.0.0.0.

    That's just my oppinion tho.. sorry for rambling on about utter nothing.
