    happy Most common/easiest runescape server (e.g. 317, 508 etc)

    Hey.

Thinking about making a server. Shouldn't be too hard. Need to learn some more Java but just wondering what's the most common/easiest server to build with heaps of functions (skillcapes, gwd, corp etc.) I thought 317 or 508 since there are a lot of tuts on them but just wondering..

Well, in 508, it looks easier to navigate and it looks easier to add stuff in. Wrong. 317 or 377 is easy to find stuff and add stuff. Simpler but everything gets really crowded if you don't have some way to sort out everything.

Well I downloaded a 508 source and I decided to have Lleyta as my home place. I configured the ammy of glory (t4) to teleport there. I don't know how to spawn npcs (for shops) or spawn objects (barricades) and that stuff. Still looking for that stuff. Lol.

That's what I mean. In 307/317 you can easily place them. Just hard to understand how that part works.

    I think 317 is the easiest ;)

I might start off with a 317 whilst i'm still learning Java and then maybe progress to 508 later on.

Things I accomplished with 508: Made a glory tele to lleyta, made lleyta my home place, spawned an npc

Things that made me irritated in 508: Lots of guides for difficult stuff but no shops or spawning guides.

Hope 317 gives me better luck. Anyone know any good 317 sources to work off?

I mistakenly moved this here, or you mistakenly posted here, I'll just go ahead and assume fault.

    To better break it down:

317 - the longest developed revision. It contains the most documentation, and the most knowledge from communities.

377 - mostly the same, however some packets changed, and a few new features were added (like pest control and whatnot)

474 - this is becoming more common because it's the most graphically intense "old school" experience. This was before the "HD" update, and this was a few updates (less than 10) before the wilderness-PKing removal, and the trade limit. There is a rather abundant amount of information on 474 now. I also believe this was after the new engine update, so there are differences from revisions (I believe) under 420 or so.

    503 - don't bother, see below

508 - basically the 317 of the new "HD" era. Popular because of the new graffix and what not. This revision is decently documented, but was pushed to the back burner by the next revision below

525 - oh man lemme tell you about those D-claws xD. Basically, this is the most popular 5s revision, because it is more or less the same as a 508, but it has several new features like, of course, the D-Claws special update, and a few new pieces of equipment.

562 - not sure why it's popular, but it's not well documented unless you know people who have documented it

600+ - well, you'd have to be a smart ass to keep these revisions, because mainly all of the 600+ sources are bare bones. You have to add everything yourself, get map data yourself, and write all the features yourself. I recommend you work on a lower revision and familiarize yourself with java before going here.
