one of those vs threads...
Hey,
Sorry for asking a question that's always been asked around here, but since im started my Jolt project, i always have been wondering which version i should use..
Either 317 or 508
If i were to use 317, i'd have alot more things finished, etc, since there's less to be done
If i were to use 508, lots of features would also be done, but some cannot cause of the lack of packets etc
Please help me decide

Honestly, make your emulator have support for both... Although I like old school runescape far more

i say do 317 its faster to code and 317 servers are alot more fun

Personally, 317 are more fun.
And much easier to make.
But since Jolt is programmed in C# it would be wise to keep as new as possible.
Alternatively, 2 versions would be great.

Well either version you make, leave support for the opposite version. THat's what I meant. SUpport both versions, work on one

I didn't vote for which one I liked best, I voted for which one would be better. AJ, just think, if you coded a 317 server then it'd be too easy for you. Coding 508 gives you a challenge and will let you improve your java skills, so I recommend 508 if you wish to get better at java.
That's just my opinion though ;)

iv always loved doing 508 since a base was release from pali, was fun, made me learn shit loads about packets and using frames etc lol :P

I think i'm going to go back to 317 
I looked back at the fun times i had on those revisions, and i really liked it :P I think it would be awesome if i could recreate it exactly, bring back some of my mates who used to love playing in the old days, and have some fun
I don't think 508's are going anywhere to be anymore, they're just a revision stuck in the middle of nowhere, it's neither new or retro anymore 
Thanks for the tips and votes guys, greatly appreciated. So it's settled, Jolt Environment will be 317 by default, but can be easily configured to match upon higher revisions (I'll leave alot of things configurable).

I change my mind, i think I'm going to stick with 508's, 317 are so damaged
I cannot find a clean version of a 317 without any edits to the client etc

exactly my point, they all want there clients to look the same as the latest so they do hardcore interfaces coding and make it look completely SHIT!
Same with there server bases, most have custom crap thats just so useless.

@Tyler 317 is easier to code because more features are alredy added.
On topic:
I prefer 508 because you have more of a challenge to code (trade, shops etc.) I've also learnt more from coding 508 servers (I've coded 100% GWD, lots of skills, barrows 100%). I've also had more experience with 508 clients, and learnt more because I've had to code sprites etc. myself where as in 317 custom sprites, models, j frames etc. are already added.

I would prefer 317.
508 -> to much files for me to deal with. I get too confusing :[
But playing a server 508 would be better.
50/50 Even though I quit RuneScape and PServer's I'd like to see the most success private server with more then 5k people ( Is that possible? ).

aj i agree with two seperate versions,you'r Jolt project looks awsome,i voted for 508. Kinda bored of 317 now sincei had a 317 server but i just got bored.
