I honestly think that developers just left because they moved on in life. Got some great education (I mean honestly, if you can reverse engineer GunZ at the age of 16, you're brilliant (for example the LegacyGamers former development team (Sulfin, ThievingSix))) and simply are working on other things. If there was a decent community, player base and probably enough money around they might stick around. But then it'd just be for the money, not because of the community.
Also, there's no fun to develop for GunZ. The code is a mess and well.... there's code. No more reverse engineering, just C++. Not really a challenge anymore.
