Check if the weapon type of the item is set to "katana", in the zitem. It should be weapon="katana".

What error are you getting? and no it's not because there is not .bmp.dds file, you don't need it, Here is what i suggest you do to isolate the problem, Rename Myst.elu to katana01.elu or some other katana you have there, replace it and see if it works, if it does then you're doing it wrong when adding the codes.
