im using 2005 and i upgrade it to 2008... no conflict no errors!!!
2005 is slow retrieving and small hard drive requirement
2008 is fast to retrieving and big hard drive requirement and 2008 is secure to sql inject better than 2005
i think 2008 is the best...

and yes higher version loads faster than old, i test it with my old db with over 100K characters, 2003 slow, 2008 faster 2012 , same faster but cant see the difference that much

@JerM i got the same error with you is it an attack? coz lately i got this error many times a day.
I'm using SQL 2008 R2 for both 32bit and 64bit instruction sets everytime I setup a server. I like the mainstream application because of lots of features can do more than 2005. Aside from that you can install once, not twice like the 2005. And also more columns so I choose 2008 R2.
If we ever upgrade to sql 2008, what will happen to the side of database structure? is it still the same? or will be change and will add more little few queries something like that.

Hosting companies now are using server 2012 which is not compatible with 2005 and 2008 sql databases. Most of them no longer support 2003 or 2008 servers anymore as their new datacenter no longer support old version of OS's. In few cases they allow you to install at your own risk. For me 2008 with R2 works fine .. Since my old server in 2000 and 2005 i still use 2008 R2 .. rather than 2008 standard version .. much stable
