    Allmost there! One more problem with connection

    Hey guys, so ive been working really hard at making a privaet PT server and im 90% the way there, ive fought many obstacles and come out on top and now i fear this has me at the bottom of a shooting barrel allow me to go into more detail.

    Ive used that Personal Private server BETA by Bobsk something and its worked great i got npcs to show up im walking abotu fighting talking leveling geat stuff! however now i need my little brother to join and it wasnt working, ive deleated everything and changed my i.p and im even on a diffrent computer! (Only becuase it saves me confusion i had so much crap on my pc) Right ive done it again the only diffrences ive made is pointing the i.ps from 127.0.0.1 but now tehre going to 90.X02.X6.1X1 (My ip address) and i have done this for the following
    SQL.DLL
    HOTUK.ini
    Idata (in the client)
    Is there somthing iam missing? i have allso set the adminstation connection thing (The private personal pt server thing did it on its own)
    But theres no reason i can see why its not connectiong it just says it straight away (Allso with the VCPviewer thing it says Remote addres then my local addres:0 instead of my i.p address this isnt right is it? ill point out im on a router but i have forwarded all the needed ports any idears??

    If you are using the Quantumfusion 1873 client I probably recommended, then the main place for your IP is hexed right at the end of the client.

    On that particular client, if that is right, then everything else doesn't really matter in my experience.

    Well, ptReg.rgx, but not particularly for the IP.

    It is perfectly reasonable for the remote address of a listening port to be 0.... because it's listening on that port for a connection from any IP. Nothing is connected to it, so the remote is indeed zero.

    Each machine that connects to the server will open another line with it's IP as the remote, and "Connected" as the state. Provided they can get through the firewall and router.

    ---EDIT---
    BTW... if you notice that the local port on a live connection is a seemingly random number, don't worry about that either. That's the IP part of TCP/IP, and it's how BSD sockets work. Since only one client can connect per-socket (port if you like, but by this time it's application level not network level) the socket library (affectionately known as WinSock on the Windows OS) will allocate each connection a socket from a heap of free ones when they connect via the listening port. That's the number you see there.

    The same will happen to the client when viewed locally when it's connection is made.

    We need to pick a thread and stick to it. I'm getting neck ache reading this tennis match.

    If you get nothing on QF1873, it's because you are using the XTrap enabled version, not the "NoXTrap" version. ^_^

    But if you post a link to the executable you are using, I'm happy to give it a look see.

    But also... go grab a hex editor, they really aren't that scary. Just think of it as a spreadsheet that can represent any file you throw at it. All you have to do then is make some sense of the data set. lol

    Keep staring at the ink blot. Soon, you will see shapes appear.

    The first one you may spot is "This program cannot be run in DOS mode."

    Now go to Start -> Run and type "command.com" (assuming you are running XP i386 and not the x64 version.

    Now try to run the program there... Wohoo! Now you know why that line is there.

    Edit it to say "Oi! Run me in Windows.", save the file and run it from command.com again... et voila! You have just made your first program hack.

    PinoyPT client version 1871. Not familiar with it, but I can't see the usual IP embedded in it.

    Place this file (http://uploading.com/files/dbd9cm19/hotuk.zip/) in your client folder, then the game will run in a window... you will have to add your IP, or username in the admin section of your server hotuk.ini in order to log in and not DC with that file present though.

    lol. Sure. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OPIVR3XM

    BTW, with that client, the info is probably in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\TriglowPictures\PristonTale registry entries.

    I haven't used them in a long long time, since they are really BAD news on any present Windows OS (Vista or 7, XP is now in "extended support", in other words a defunct, dead project.) I'm sure there is a .reg file for clients around here somewhere though. :s

    Re: Allmost there! One more problem with connection

    Okey i have decided to look for a new server/client maybe there stopping it connceting, allthough if i can connect with a local host would they have anything to do with it?
    Can you just tell me if this is right or if ive missed anything out
    When you want to change it from Local host - Global i go into
    SQdll.Registry chagne all the 127.0.0.1 to my i.p then run .reg file
    Hotuk.ini Change all the 127.0.0.1 to my i.p
    Idata(In client folder) theres 3 servers in there all changed to my i.p address

    Re: Allmost there! One more problem with connection

    Finally... thanks to an old post by Mike (SiK).

    Code:
                                  Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Triglow Pictures]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Triglow Pictures\PristonTale]
    "Version"="3096"
    "Account"=""
    "CameraInvert"="false"
    "CameraSight"="OFF"
    "ColorBPP"="32"
    "Graphic"="1"
    "MicOption"="OFF"
    "MotionBlur"="false"
    "Network"="1"
    "ScreenSize"="0"
    "Server1"="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"<---your IP here
    "Server2"="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"<---your IP here
    "Server3"="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"<---your IP here
    "ServerName"="Server Name"
    "Sound"="On"
    But other than that... not much that I can think of. Trouble is, you can set the IP the client connects to in almost any way you like.

    My last client (unreleased 1873 mod) used a file called PT.cfg, and nothing else. So unless the client comes with instructions, you either have to read it's code, debug it's API accesses, or just grub around in the dark based on what you know about other clients without any real guarantee that they will work for this one.

    Anyone know PinoyPT client 1871 well?

    Re: Allmost there! One more problem with connection

    Server_619, and Quantumfusion1873NoXTrap are the ones I know work together best. You can substitute Server_619 with the Fusion Repack if you like, as they are similar build.

    Possibly the most complete (but not the most stable) server executable is the Endless Tower 2 v2 release, which is also good with the QF1873 client. But it is a server executable only, and requires you to use an existing data set. (all the files except the server executable)

    All of those will show up pretty quickly with the search facility here. I don't think you ever mentioned which server repack you followed my guide on.

    Your screenshot, BTW should show a second connection on the server4096.exe that I don't see. If the client has made the connection, then the server should have one open connection and one listening one. If it doesn't, then some network security has closed the connection as an illegal one.

    And as you said before, if the same server / client pair worked on loopback, then any issues with them working on LAN or WAN IPs are caused either by a misconfiguration, or something device blocking the signal on the network.

    Re: Allmost there! One more problem with connection

    That was really helpful to read thanks and i have figured out why it wasnt working on a remote location its because i was trying to join into it remotley from my own i.p address, i asked someone and they explained that it cant sit behind a router then leave to find its own address its like trying to take out a pin from a blown up balloon then pushing it back through the hole you got it out you cant do it :), but i have one request if you don't mind, people keep talking about hexing the i.p in .exes beucase i really want a new client/server the one im using atm is really outdated but for other clients you to hex them i havnt a clue what im even looking for! can you make a video of you hexing one or take a screenshot of what im looking for when i go through with a editor? plz and thank you! (Thats directed to anyone to whom it interests)
