T______T i need help.this lightsaber thing i made in 3ds max looks awesome in 3ds max...but it falls apart ingame!turns invisible at certain angles! (thats and it doesnt display properly ingame at all)
i made exported it to 3ds and zipped it and the two textures i made for it into a zip file and then uploaded it to rapidshare...PLEASE SOMEONE FIX IT for me....i cant figure out what exactly i did wrong with it cause it looks beautifull in the 3ds thing...

also i badly need the tip of the blade turned into a half sphere (you know like lightsabers are spost to be),need it to be about the same size as that skull staff ya made me,maybe with the blade extending slightly out from there if possible (so that way if i feel like lightsaber,i get lightsaber,if i feel like skull staff,i get skull staff ^^)
havent figured out how to work the space warps on 3ds max yet X.X
btw id like the weapon to be held just below the final green color ring

Do you have the original file for the light sabre? The one you've provided have some seriously messed up hierarchy settings...
When you drop the item, it looks normal (like it would in 3ds max), once its equipped it has some crazy ass stuff going on...

The Alpha layer blend is specifically designed to achieve "glow" or "blur" effects. (and avoid "aliasing") The question is whether you are applying overlay, or additive alpha blend. (GDIPlus also requires pre-multiplied RGBA DIBs, but that's beside the point as we are using DirectX, and NIFs and ASE are both designed for DirectX or OpenGL, not GDIPlus)
TGA is exactly equivalent to the DDS textures in the sabre I provided, but PT it's self doesn't support Normal maps, Specular Maps or Emissive Maps which TES IV and GameBryo in general does. Fortunately (and I checked this before passing it on) only Normal mapping is used, and then only on the hilt. (Normal maps are like bump maps, and can make simple shapes look much more complex)
Anyhoo. There is no Emmissive texture to the blade, so how it looks as a TGA in PT should be the same as it looks in TES 4. The original comes in Red, Green, Blue and Purple blades. But I checked them out and each are identical with a hue rotation to the blade texture. You are only looking for a template, and Blue is the first in the alphabetic list.
I would expect a Lightsaber to be a Knight / Pike weapon TBH, but it doesn't really matter. Xtreme PT had a Glock for Atalantas' which was pretty cool. :lol:
I suspect NetImmense/GameBryo NIF files support Voxel textures (which always face the camera) since, when animated the texture always seems to be at the same angle. (especially when you are close enough to see the DCT chroma compression of the DDS file)
PT only supports that with ground drops... not held weapons. The usual way PT "fakes" this effect (for example, the 2D bonfires and torches) is to place the same texture on an extruded X. (2 90 degree flat planes) this looks reasonably good from any angle.
You saber is never going to look like "Force Unleashed", but should come close to a "Knights of the Old Republic" blade. :wink:

what original file?i created it in 3ds max 8 myself..i tryed to set the heirarchy myself but something went terribly wrong when i was doing it..cause i was looking at the item making guide on here fer weps..and when i clicked all the buttons in the order it said..there were multiple arrows going in dif directions,nothing at all like the heirarchy thing looked on there......
thats what i meant about fixing it....it needs the proportions and heirarchy fixed (or just find a new lightsaber hilt model..cause i think the one i downloaded is messed up bad)

also on that subject bob..yes this is for purely visual mods for ept...which are allowed under the suba games terms of service and end user liscence agreement...
and why i think this should go on to fruition..is because this is also about item modding itself..creating a new wep from the ground up (not entirely but ya)...and im complaining loudly about all the problems i encounter,and im fairly dense headed...so this would be a very good topic for prospective modders of there ow nservers
and also i plan on sharing with everyone the results of these modeling attempts, ^^ if i discover something cool or get it to happen,i want everyone to enjoy with me ^^

Sadly I have no idea how to deal with the RIMs and ERFs inside the BIF files of KOTOR that amount to the models. It also uses TGAs inside the BIF files for texturing though.
Kotor Tool is not an official tool like the TES Construction Set, so getting stuff in and out is a lot more "hit an miss".

Ye Sheen, but I can confirm suba allows/doesn't care about these mods. They even made a special forum place for my/other peoples mods/fixes.
And omg but my 2tb drive just shat it self. Tried File Scavenger to get files back, but now my comp isnt recognising my drive at all.

Not trying to offend, but you couldn't even get a correct graphics card, I doubt you could fix my now non functioning hard drive.

:D i think i might have fixed the heirarchy,cause now the blade is showing up bright and pretty (still gotta fix the hadnle tga though) but otherwise it aint invisi anymore ^^
what i basically did was opened up my backup .max fiel that i made of t his thing...i opened up heirarchy window..click "affect pivot only",then click "reset pivot"...then i use select box to select everything,then i click "group" to merge all the objects into one..so only one heirarchy instead of 4 heirarchys for the 4 objects total (that was the problem,there were 3 objects composing handle and one composing blade)
there we go..fixed the handle texture by morphing it to 24 bit bmp then adding an alpha channel manually and saving as tga overwriting the old one

Hacking can be used as tool in a criminal activity, which is an "illegal" hack. Hacks can be applied without consideration for the greater ramifications, or can disable positive aspects of a program or system in order to enable something trivial... which is a "lame" or "dirty" hack.
But "hacking" in it's self; is a legitimate, worthy and (should be) professional (ie. responsible, considerate, legal, polite, carefully planned, on-time and on-budget) process.

I had noticed these on the forums. Why are Suba such bad server admins and developers? You'd think they could just hire some of the people here? They say they don't get support from YD, but do they think we do? Most of our Private Servers are more complete, less buggy and more secure than their official one.
@friskys: Gratz. Looks good. And, yea... I believe weapons need to be combined to a single mesh to work in PT.
@sungam3d: I would recommend GetDataBack (the full licensed version) run from an OS on another drive with at least 2tb free space for you to restore the original files. :(: Sux huh?
