    Gm client hotuk

    Can someone please post a link to a gm client hotuk? I have searched for hours and found nothing that I can view.
    Some posts wont allow me to see the code snipets, especially when there are 2.

    to be a GM, we need to use special files ? Or it's just necessary to have a normal client, with an hotuk inside ?

    Re: Gm client hotuk

    Yes, that is the wrong way to view hotuk.ini.

    It should read:-
    Code:
    //*MODE WINDOW
    //*관찰자모드
    //*화면모드 서버모드

    //english admin mode
    //MFC40.DLL Copyright-2002 /0
    //japanese
    //핑크색 망사똥꼬팬티속깜장개미 /0
    //korean
    (왕초보가이드) 포장단체주문환영 /0

    #*배경선명도
    #*메뉴화면
    #*PLAYERSKIN
    #*나쁜놈
    #*지형모델
    #*지형물체
    #*배경밝기
    #*배경선명도
    #*조명각도
    #*서버주소
    #*서버포트
    #*화면품질
    #*관찰자모드
    #*데이타서버포트
    #*데이타서버주소
    #*캐릭터서버주소
    #*캐릭터서버포트

    //*화면모드 서버모드
    //english admin mode
    //japanese
    //korean
    //(왕초보가이드) 포장단체주문환영 /0
    Now you can read it... if you can read Korean. Sadly most people here assume we are all stupid, and can't even guess at Korean text files so they just post garbled hotuk.ini that they think works all right.

    The reason it doesn't winge about the web corruption mistakes in the earlier one, is that anything that starts with a # or a // is commented out.

    So all the game.exe reads is:-
    Code:
    (왕초보가이드) 포장단체주문환영 /0
    The "*MODE WINDOW" line will give you window mode regardless of wether it is set as such in your ptreg.rgx or registry or not.

    Each line starting with a * is a command, and if you uncommented them, many of those in the Western European characters would have been web corrupted. The statements that do not start * are parameters to the above commands. They usually translate to "High" "Medium" "Low" or "Yes" "No" "On" "Off" etc.

    From 1873 client, the full verb list is:-
    Code:
    아주나쁨
    나쁨
    보통
    좋음
    서버모드
    창모드
    전체화면
    *지형애니
    *몬스터지정
    (왕초보가이드)
    포장단체주문환영
    *캐릭터서버포트

    Yes... most of it is in Korean, regardless of the localisation of the client. Working out the right parameters for each command and what they do, I will leave up to you... I just translated them all and read back what parameters they where looking for in the code. But I don't use a Korean Hotuk.ini on my clients any more.

    Now you know what it looks like in the game memory, you can find it and hack it to your hearts content. ^_^

    I have translated and used that translation for the client Hotuk
    for KPT1871, however nothing seems to work for me. the client never goes into windowed mode at all. Is this client capable of window mode? this is what it looks like.

    Re: Gm client hotuk

    Well, if you've modified the search strings in the clients memory, what it looks like won't help us much any more.

    Of course it's entirely possible to modify the client so it doesn't even look for window mode any more, but in that case, players can still use a DirectX proxy to force the window to be framed and not full screen. So I don't see the point.

    The current official ePT clients allow you to play Windowed, but do default back to full screen each time you quit and re-enter.

    It's also possible to re-arrange the priority of settings in the registry, in ptreg.rgx, in Idata.bmp and in hotuk.ini. Each of these settings stores holds equivalent information, and keeping so many conflicting config files is very confusing. I blank out the registry stuff, because Microsoft say no program should keep user settings in HKey Local Machine, and merge the other settings files into a single "PTSettings.cfg".

    I notice that uPT prefer to pass ADMIN or PLAYER on the command line to their client from their launcher and most everything else is hard coded in the exe, or associated dlls.

    Quantumfusion embedded the server IP for the registry entry Server1 into his 1871 and 1873 clients... that gives a good template for if you wanted to do the same with other settings.

    The problem with making these changes, is that unless you share your client, we can't really help with configuring it. So until you are happy with the way the clients are configured, it's better to leave the default translations alone.

    Oh yes... the 3124 ePT client seems to be looking for:-
    Code:
    파아란 알렉스*Bobby&이스마엘~-ㅜㅋ /0
    as it's admin mode string now... but I've not traced the operation yet, and just adding that doesn't work.

    Exactly which English client looked for the Microsoft Foundation Class rubbish I don't know. Whatever language it's in, each client uses some nonsensical line in hotuk.ini to enable Admin mode. I presume it's to deter players from using it... because anyone who can read code in Olly can find the string searched easy enough. It happens before all the data files are scanned and before the Window is opened.

    The usual "Japanese" string is in Korean, as is the current "English" one. MFC40.dll applications often contain a string similar to the one listed as the "English" Admin line. The Korean one is pretty meaningless, but translates to something like "Group Packaging order."

    IMS the line "*화면모드 서버모드" is also "*MODE WINDOW" in Korean. "WINDOW" is a parameter to the "*MODE" command, other options are "SERVER" or "FULLMODE" and the same string is read by the server in it's hotuk.ini which almost always starts "*MODE SERVER"... some people have made server executables run as clients, and client code is often moved back into the servers. As was done for the KPT Endless Tower release.

I have tried all the hotuk's listed in this thread and nothing works..so in the meantime I will Install kpt 1871 again and start from there. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke don't fix it" lol

    here is the link to my client

    Re: Gm client hotuk

    Let me illustrate, I hope, once and for all, the difference between a decent text editor, and Notepad.

    On the left, Notepad, on the right MadEdit.

    The same file is displayed in each, notepad displays meaningless rubbish which, if copied and pasted into a web page, is then mangled even further as the Windows Western European character set isn't a Web compliant, (Windows isn't generally a very Web compliant OS) and doesn't use the ISO character sets defined as Web standards... so only the characters between ASCII code 32 and 128 will remain valid. That's basically Upper, and Lower case unaccented Latin alphabet and a few well defined symbols and parenthesis, and the usual Arabic numbers 0 to 9.

    Why would anyone expect the Web (an international information system) to transparently backwards support a Microsoft proprietary Western European character code page?

    MadEdit performs a quick pre-scan and usually guesses the correct code-page for the file, if it is text based, from a wide range of supported standards... and it's a pretty decent Hex Editor too boot. Not the best, but fairly good.

    Since Windows 2000, the Windows clipboard does support UTF, and NT4 (but not Win95-WinME) supported a proprietary Wide-Char system which is patially compatibile with UTF-16. Both the Web and XML support UTF standard code for text data, and UTF supports (almost) every language form, currently used and historic... Yes, there are even character sets for Norse Runes and Cuneiform. You can copy and paste from MadEdits guestimated code-page onto any UTF supported web application and be assured of correct, understandable, un-mangled translation at the other end.

    MadEdit is not the only text editor that supports these functions, it's just the one I like to use.

    So the file that worked for you was:-

    Re: Gm client hotuk

    np. It really isn't a problem so long as you don't Mix your OS and the Web, and so long as you don't understand Korean and don't want to try to translate it.

    The problem is that posting it in it's garbled form on a web page, or forum can corrupt it, and is not actually very helpful to people on the other end who may understand it better.

    I find I can recognise patterns in the Korean text (even though I don't speak or read Korean) better when it's displayed as it's meant to be read than when it's a mess of Windows Western extended characters. And so, I always work with PT files like that.

    The Japanese files I do have some understanding of, but in Western Code Page they are just unintelligible.

    In some ways, it's like trying to modify code in hex without a disassembler to hand, and when the web comes into play, you've disassembled x86 code with a 680x0 disassembler, and are expecting people to be able to read it, or use it in their server... it doesn't work.

    Notepad works fine if your PC is set to the Windows Korean code page...(CP949) but then you have to work every application in Korean.

    It has been updated, in recent versions, to handle UTF files. Save as "Unicode", "Unicode big endian" or "UTF-8", the problem is that the PT client and server can't then handle the files you save with notepad, since they only support CP949 Korean text files. So you really need an editor that will support CP949 text files without you having to change the language of your entire system to Korean.

    And I know people have been working in Windows Western for a long time here on RZ, but it has caused at least as much confusion as it has solved problems... and I'm sure it drives away potential participants who use other code pages as the default on their system.

    I only ask that people stop thinking that all text on a computer is ANSI... ANSI = American standard, and most of us in Western Europe may have adopted something similar but it's not always the same. And in nations where the national language is not an adaptation of Latin script, it's not even close.

    So you can't just copy and paste text from one Windows PC to another the other side of the world and expect it to work. (Interestingly, if you do this on a Mac, usually it does. As the ads say "It just works".)

    Re: Gm client hotuk

    Which one? The one used as an example that tangodown is now using?

    The example in my screenshots that I have commented the command perposes will be in my soon to be released server repack. It's still a little scrappy with duplicate sections and such.
