I got that link from DK already. I found Shagpub's server guide (included clans) but his version of IIS seems different from mine.

    Re: Public access

IIS is necessary for clan registration as when you go the clan master, clicking on the clan master runs the script in your iis folder that then registers the clan on the sql

    Re: Public access

If I'm not mistaken... with a little effort php or other would also work, but IIS (more specifically ASP) is how most server & client are set up by default.

Ruby would actually make an awesome Clan script I think. There are advantages in this... security, stability (IIS is not known for that) you can run them on a linux box with SQL access to the game server (kernel 2.5+ IMS scales web services much better) etc etc.

But the big downfall is that any alternative is *much* harder to set up. Mostly because you will probably have to hex any client you want to use (some servers can fake asp when they actually run something else tho) and that the server.exe won't run (without emulation at least) on anything but Windows... so if you want non-Windows for the clan website, you need 2 servers. And that's twice the administration, even if it's not twice the server fees... ;) Lastly... as you know, many servers come with ASP code to run the clan server. Finding PHP (let alone Pearl, Ruby or pure CGI code) to do the same thing will be hard, and you may have to do it yourself. :(

Why is IIS necessary for clans again?
It isn't... but it's much easier than the alternatives. ;)
