Running a server on windows vista.

xp and vista are almost the same the only thing they changed/added are the new glass themes and such. I use vista myself to i even made a video about how to set it up in vista.

Vista is actually a heavily recoded version of XP that was suppose to be more focused on security, but its interface makes it look very similar.

A laptop can run a server without an issue as long as the stats are good. Ideally, you would want a PC though since they're easier to upgrade, the hardware runs smoother, and there's much less of a chance of overheating. My computer, a 2.09ghz AMD Barton Core with 1.5gigs of ram can run a server, but it won't support too many people. Btw, it's normally a 1.8ghz computer, I actually have to overclock it a bit to get to 2.09ghz lol.

I recommend viewing xino's video if anyone is having problems setting up a server. It has leet music =P

Rofl...... But every laptop bought the last 4 years can run it cause my old dell 0.5Ghz Pentium III, 512Mb ram and 12GB harddisk even run's it. And the nicest thing is i had 16 people with a bit lagg.

Yup. Crap computers can run the server, but not run it well due to memory leaks.

Already got your server running on your vista 64?? Cause when I insert the scripts into SQL 2005 at my vista 64 I get +/- 200 errors about table thingy's etc.... well to make a long story short. It doesn't work.

so if anyone can help me with this issue ( it is just so i can setup my test server at my main PC for testing etc. )

The only thing i can recomend you is install XP and if you only install vista because of the looks i got 1 thing to say DONT!!!! Just download a transformationpack or such.

No Xinos. Not running vista because it has better looks. Just to have my 4 GB running without any problems about security. I heard 4 GB memory on xp 64-bit is oke about running but there are a lot of security holes.

And because of that darn vista 64 i can't install xp 32. I dunno why but it just won't work.


Beside that. Did anyone with a PC with vista 64 tried playing pt? Cause at my place i don't have text.
