Strange Problem

So bob, You mean all along the problem is because of my memory is too slow? Every time i login and 1-5 second later it just close/crash and it give me a error.txt inside it say: lpDD->SetCooperativeLevel .
Well a week ago before i was making PT, I got my computer fix and the repair guys was stupid, I told him after repair my comp i want to upgrade the memory to 1GB Memory of Ram, So he took out 2 of my Hynix Memory(550MB Left,Use to be a 1GB), And he install Kingston Memory Ram(Only 1 slot was use) So i got confuses, Cause most of time you have 2 slot and those slot must be filled, So i just took out that Kingston Memory Stick and plug back my old memory stick. But if it a Memory problem, If it correct, Im gonna go upgrade my memory stick.

What you need (to free up the memory) is a 3D accelerated Graphics card, and disable the on-board GPU in your BIOS config. :wink:

The problem with "shared" memory, is that the GPU usually reads and writes to the address bus more frequently than the CPU... when the graphics memory is on the same address bus as the CPU memory, the CPU can't run anything so long as the GPU is doing any 3D rendering. Games then have to "give up" rendering frames so the CPU can actually do some work.

Usually you can just about scrape by, but you are now running a memory intensive Server and a Web Server with server-side-scripting in the background while you play.

It wasn't a "good" situation to start with, but you made it a lot worse. :(: Sorry, but it's the truth.

DirectDraw:SetCooperativeLevel method (now depreciated, and only really supported for backwards compatibility post DirectX 6, and on Windows CE) is supposed to allow threads to update multiple "layered" surfaces at the same time... I would guess that you just don't have enough memory left for the number of surfaces that the client is trying to allocate on the GPU via DirectDraw.

You may have better luck without "Window Mode"... but with no Client Hotuk.ini, you should have been getting that anyway. Closing any and all Windows you don't actually need (not just minimizing them) may help as well. But essentially, you don't have access to enough graphics memory to start the game up properly.

Reduce the resolution to 800x600 or 640x480 if you can (you can with my Butchered client, I've run it at 512x384 without too much trouble), and definitely reduce the texture (graphics) quality.

I'm gonna try to upgrade my memory stick then, Cause mostly it cause cause my memory is too low.

Looks like the GPU is dynamically allocating what it needs from your 1Gig stick. But it isn't the "amount" that is the biggest problem. It's the bus contention created by the GPU being on-board your motherboard, and not on a card with it's on dedicated bus and dedicated memory.

Seriously... A 2 Gig stick would be a slight improvement. Using a motherboard with on-board graphics is something your should only do with Laptops and Notebooks... and shared memory is only a "good idea" if you don't do anything but surf the web and use Microsoft Office. (or equivalent)

I wouldn't watch a DVD on a PC with shared memory. XD

I'm going to check... because PT has a list of "older" graphics chipsets that it treats as a "special case"... and I have a suspicion that the old MX 4 series was among them.

Also... a "good" example server hotuk was provided to us by AirBourn in this thread.

Yeah, I agree, But you know, Even when i try to do another alternative way like, Since my little brother laptop are faster then mine(Take him less then a minute to load PT) So i just send him my Reg,1977 Client and he load fine,Able to login to my account and such fine, But when he get inside the game he get the same crash as me, I thought it gonna work lol but still not, I guess the master computer that host the game have to be fast in order for another player to play.

Definitely not. As I've said before I've hosted on a PII 250Mhz with 128Meg (standard jPT 4096 with no Ice maps and so on) with many players logged in, no lag, no shortage of memory and plenty of spare CPU cycles.

So if both machines do the same... there must be some SMD file or such which is simply consuming too much resources on the client.

My advise is to use the KPT Test updater to get the standard assets, and use those with the 1977 client... not Froggs fancy files. ;)

Sorry, I dont know any client folder to use( What i mean is i use FroggPT for my Client folder).

You should know private servers use different file names for different file. If the game.exe can not find a file, your game will crash.

So I would suggest downloading an OFFICAL game either from kpt or ept.

Crash at login could also be caused by that little dragon pet that appears during the first 9 levels. Especially with Frogg's files.
You could try logging in a level 10+ character if it's not the case already.

On a side note, what on earth is that version of Windows... XP with the Vista logo and CyberWarez corporation. I wouldn't be surprised if my system was unstable with that kind of tweaked OS (: .

I already able to login my master computer without crash now, Just need to figure out where all the npc and monster goes lol. But i will let you guy know how it goes.

hehe i explained you in pm already you need to use the original client...

for npcs & monster Copy ur ''Char'' & ''field'' folder from ur client to your server

after that you will have NPC's & monsters

I already copy npc and monster folder to my server folder and my gameserver folder also, Im using the butchered-betav2b 1977.

I always found installing XP via nLite customised CD was the quickest and most stable way to install any PC... but you do have to understand what should go into an OEM installation.

The least "stable" versions I've made are when I want to make a machine specifically not support various Microsoft standard features. (like .Net Framework, Internet Explorer, DirectShow, or DirectX in general)

I usually only do that if I know the hardware I'm installing is going to really struggle with that technology anyway. It is unstable, but only in the specific areas I'm trying to avoid, and with the reasons I'm trying to avoid it, it would usually be unstable there anyway.

Where I agree with you, is that I'm not convinced Angelicgodz has the knowledge to use nLite competently, and fear that this OEM may not have been made by him, or for his PC. Most of the "custom" XP install discs floating around the net are pretty messy. :(:

That is a level 3 Admin command. Did you remember to authenticate to level 3?

Change USERID to your user account name
*ADMIN_LOGIN "admin" is the default password. so you can loginto any account using that password (admin)
*ADMIN_NAME "admin" is the name you send a message to in game to enable gm access
*ADMIN_COMMAND "1"
*ADMIN_COMMAND "2"
*ADMIN_COMMAND "3" are the passwords for admin access level.

So when in game type /:admin 3
This will give you level 3 admin access.
Then your put command will work.
