    How to fidn the bottleneck.

I'm running a coemu based source, and the server starts lagging when 100+ players connect to it. :)

When i had no connection limit, it was saturating the cable modem's bandwidth.

Now i've placed the limit in, and the bandwidth is no longer getting saturated, as near as I can tell, but lag spikes are still frequent.

So how do I find out what the problem is without throwing oney I don't have at the problem?

I think it's a very real possibility that the core can't handle large numbers of players. It's also possible that a new router is needed to handle the large number of connections.

I know it is a coemu based source. A heavily modded one. It uses ODBC, for example.

But when i connect to the local host directly, the lag is gone.

That seems to point to the router being the issue.

    u sure about that? lol

well actually it depends on what your talking about it being unstable or it being a heavily modified coemu source

Re: How to fidn the bottleneck.

It can use either postgres, or mysql.

It supports LUA scripting for items and npcs, and also timed scripting, and scripting when levelling.

It uses ODBC for db connectivity, so it can actually use any DB, it's just that postres and mysql use different quoting syntax, so there's a server option to select mysql vs postgresql.

It has guild war, and pk tournament. The guild gates work.

And most skills at least sort of work. :)

It also seems relatively stable. (as in it can stay up for a while with a 100 connection limit on a cable modem)

I've left enough clues for smart people to figure out which source this is.

If you really made all those things by yourself and you're using one of the standard coemu sources, good job.

yea i gotta agree thats not bad at all lol(if its actually holding 100 players on cable modem internet and it's coemu based)

alltho i cant believe that he'd actually get 100+ players on at 1 time... lolz only qo has did that and maybe hco the rest of the servers where never popular enough and ive actually never heard of this dudes server so if u dont mind post the site/or forum link

If your skilled enough to write all of that new stuff, why are you using coemu as a base?

Also if you have 100+ on at one time and you login on locally then i agree it sounds like a router issue, or a bandwidth issue

Re: How to fidn the bottleneck.

I didn't write all that new stuff. I just happened to get ahold of the source.

I'm continuing to mod it, though. I fixed a number of bugs in it.

I'm just amazed that no one seems to have figured out who's source it is yet. :)

One more hint. Until i modded it, it required a chinese system codepage to run.

And like I said before, over 150 people were connecting to it before i put in the cap. On comcast cable modem. with a $40 netgear router.

But as i said, there are nasty lag spikes. :)
