Turn "Browse SQL" on. try turn it on via services or sql configuration.
Try selecting another sql service and/or try make a ss before you select the service to connect to.. so i can see what to choose from

maybe you setup a sql user and password as oyu install sql and NOT the windows NT identity. So you have to connect with the SQL indentity with our username and password you enter as you install sql
(this is just what I think about this error..but it can be also something else...or I'm total wrong, all is possible )
make sure the u install the kal_db andkal_auth like the guide -.- and be sure u setup good this things on odbc
