What is the best way to make a back-up of your hotel? I'm using Navicat, should I turn off the emulator and put the cms in maintenance so that there are no changes while making the back-up, or can I just make it while users are playing?

You can just run the backup when there playing :P
on the left panel where your database name is I have always used the option export to sql
but also keep an backup of your sql file on maybe something like a private mega account something that is not on your server in case of a hard drive failure
i'd also like to know, if it is alright to run a backup while the hotel is active
Using Navicat's 'backup' option is always great if the database is small. If you have a large database using either dump or the 'backup' option it will lag your hotel & take forever lol. If you're using OVH as a host then I'd suggest to pay £5 a month for their backup storage option, it's worth it.
I don't think anyone's really answered the issue correctly, it is highly recommended to backup your database while in maintenance, or when there are NO users online. The reason being, is if there are players online; they are constantly buying furni/changing clothes, etc.. which means that when the backup gets to let's say the furniture row, and a user goes and buy's a furniture AFTER the backup has processed, the data may become lost or corrupt. This is very important for large hotels, or hotels which have a lot of features that require constant SQL updates. So to be 100% safe, pop the hotel in maintenance, back it up, and take it back out. You don't need to close the emulator, just make sure no one's in the client! Hope that helps.
Exactly what I said, shut hotel down when doing the backup. That's what I do anyway. So I agree with Liam as it can cause a lot of problems such as missing or even a corrupt backup.
