Has there ever been a wrapper?

There is been this thought for quite long time in my head, has there ever been a wrapper for the client? Actually, i would like to get rid of flash and i thought on "hiding" it by wrapping it all on a executable file.
Hm, afaik the .swf's would need some modification, right? I've been looking at few files and im not too sure how would i change the way files are loaded, because actually them are loaded from a web directory.

I hear ya. I'm looking into this also, just having the slowest of starts on everything. Best thing I'm coming up with is to convert SWF's into formats that can be handled by HTML5 and then just make a standalone client/server.

There's a tool to do that on here already just gotta look around a bit.
