[317][PI] Account creation via login question

Is it possible to remove the ability to log in via the login button on the client? And if the account doesn't exist simply display some text? I would like to force my users to register on the forums before hand so they leave a method of contact. Plus I can update the users with newsletters and it's a great way to keep them on my server.

Can someone provide the names of the files I need to edit, or any relevant links?

Just a note, you have to use mysql for this to work properly. I have never tried to do this, because I was never a mysql type person, I gave up C++. Java is much easier to me.
