Help me make a private server please!

I'm new to coding and all this so I'm wanting to make my own and kinda work my way into, as a little project to help me code and all this stuff. The only thing I could get going in a blank source. I would like one that can be online. I've looked at guides and I'm not sure if I'm messing things up or not looking in the right places and it's easier for me to learn and do it if I'm talking with someone and they can tell me what I'm doing wrong or watch my screen and tell me what to do.
