Who gives a rats ass? I swear this sounds like my racing. All anybody did was whine and cry for the stupidest shit. WAAAAAA hes faster than me, WAAAAAA he's winning, WAAAAA. Get over it, want my opinion? No? im saying it anyways, If they take your files, just think of it as someone is using your success, if they take credit for it, what do you have to lose? Players on your server? wow thats awesome. If you were battling over rights to a dam oil rig then yeah i would be complaining, but all this bull shit over a simple game, it's getting pathetic. All people are trying to do is help others out by releasing shit, and others just brag about what they have and others don't. Just the atmosphere on the forums make me want to leave, this is pretty sad that it's all over a game. If your doing this for a living, then okay, complain, but i HIGHLY doubt anyone of you are paying bills with your donators, living at home doing nothing but playing PT and making money off of it. IF YOU ARE, your probably already have a shitload of money, why not just buy other peoples shit then. Im probably going way over board on this, but seriously, this is pathetic guys.

I see your point of view great48, but a re-cap of what AB said. How would you feel yourself if you had developed something (could be PT or something entirely different) then someone goes and releases and version of it claiming they developed it giving themselves credit and not being authorised to do so. In the end Alkuria was forgiven (I think) but inside it still hurt AB to see what happened. I also know that I would feel the same way if something like this ever happened to me. Most people do these things as side projects with the spare-time they have to enjoy what they do. I know this place is about sharing and helping but if your going to do that it needs to be done correctly with permission and correct credits to the right people so everyone has had the bit included so no-one feels left out.

I was actually trying to bare with Jake/Alkuria on my last post, willing to forigve him so we don't have to make an issue out of this. And you're trying to ingnite more fire? I won't bother to take your reply, but I'll just ignore that and I'm telling you my point of view is that Jake still needs to read my reply above and don't talk bad if we're trying to end this argument and breaker has a point as well but I'm not that type of person that holds grudges and even though I'm hurt I still forgive, I mean friendship is quality right?

Listen, iv been on the forums since PT first got leaked out, and ill i have heard from there on is, people are stealing my files, stolen files, bla bla bla bla bla. It gets old, files WILL be stolen, im sure theres a ton of people using different peoples files without them even knowing. What people need to know is, IT IS HAPPENING, whether you like it or not its going to happen, one way or another.

I wouldn't care if people took credit of something i did, because the ONLY thing credit will ever get you is your name to the public. If you are wanting to be famous, then credit is everything, but one big factor is, your in a community dev. It's like riding a bike, you fall down, get hurt, you get back up and take your wounds but keep going at it. If someone took my files, it would make me strive to make things better. Someone who takes files knows what there doing, but thats life, it's all about who you know, who you blow, what you steal or what you deal. Now, get back up on your bike, or tricycle, and keep going. Someone takes files, think of it as there impressed with your success. It's stupid to bitch and complain about stolen files, cause all PT is are STOLEN FILES. How did ANYONE get these files in the first place?

You have been around for as long as I can remember Great48, and I respect your fund of knowledge, but I'm afraid I don't entirely agree with you on that. There is a big difference between sharing and stealing.

Sharing = Permissive, co-operative use.
Stealing = Intrusive, unco-operative branching.

Take a Free Open Source pradigme. Collaborators work on a project from all around the world to see it, or some feature of it come to fruition. They note their authorship on files, routines and documentation they work on. Credit is largely given to the group, or it's founder... but the source is available for all to see who did what. Those credits are both a kudos, and a responcibility. If your fix breaks something else, you can be held accountable for it with as much negative kudos as you can gain from a really really good patch that adds speed or features. If Free Open Source collaborators use each others code, or documentation without asking permission, they will not recieve the "Oh yea, by the way... this optimisation only works because we don't do such and such, and if you want to implement that you will have to rework this code." kind of co-operative discussion, and the project as a whole will rapidly fall into a bug ridden mess that nobody knows who to ask for help.

It is the spirit of communication and co-operation which is destroyed by not giving credit or asking permission. And that spirit is the one thing that makes RZ much more than many other Private MMO forums. IMHO we should be encouraging it. And though I wont derride people who have not understood it's importance yet I will continue to attempt to enlighten them.

It's not about getting your name up in lights, it's about having a responsibility and care of charge over your work. Because PT is (largely)"stolen files" we have an even greater responsibility to remove that code and data from unknown and unreliable sources... and I include Yedang and Triglow in that list of unreliable sources. But leaking code of unknown origin does not help, but rather hinders that effort... and causes rifts in this community at the same time.

If I want to understand and improve upon the Linux kernel I can contact Linus Torvalts and ask him... he will help. In most situations, he is only able to help because, for any particular aspect I may ask about, he knows (from his GIT repository) who wrote that code, which team they worked under, who checked their code and authorised it's inclusion into the main repository etc etc. And he can then put me in touch with the current active lead developer who will have all the relevant history and background knowledge of that part of the system. If he did not have that to hand, he could not be as collaborative, and co-operative a developer.

Responsibility and trust are key in collaborative development. Responsibility promotes trust, and trust affords responsibility. But what creates it in the first place, is courtesy to others.

Yea... re. my note about not being able to put the genie back in the bottle, I think unhosting the files is a bit like closing the stable door after your horses have already bolted.

As an indecator of how similar these files are to the XPT 1855 server released in this thread, a Click Team PatchMaker patch between the 1855 server and Nubzor comes out at just under 7Meg. :o

I have to say that most of the differences are in DropItem, user data and logs. All of which should normally be cleaned out before release anyway. :p

There is a big difference between sharing and stealing. But the BIG thing to add here is, were using STOLEN files to begin with. Who is to take any credit from this? This is a dev community to help and release files to make PT better. Everything on this site is pretty much stolen files, one way or another.

@Great48: It's hard to tell how much is Yedang, how much is Triglow, how much was code bought by Triglow from someone else, how much is GPL, how much is now Suba or Yetime... If I knew the names of the students who sold PT on to Triglow in the first place, I would credit them... the organisations mentioned is a given, and we do mention their names quite often anyway.

I said "where possible" because we often don't know where stuff has come from, or who did what. It's better to say, so-and-so helped with this, or did that for me, that to upset your friends.

Yes, it happens. Yes, we should be able to get over it. No, we shouldn't make it standard practice or encourage it. Just my humble opinion.

Jake please close your thread, we've discussed this to the bottom of it. Everything is fixed, we're okay and the links have been removed. We all had our opinions and this is nothing else to say just close it..

So you're telling me that even after some great contributions by some of you including tutorials, you guys wont even release a simple outdated version of your server files. Wow, after 2 years or so you'd think someone would release an updated repack for everyone to start on instead of something released 2007.

This may be "drama", but as you can see your decision of greed is causing a small backlash from RZ users who expected this dev community to be more willing to share their work. The fact you came in and had everything removed reminds me of the greedy elitists that kept the files in a little circle and refused to let anyone release them. I'm a very outspoken person if you haven't noticed already. I can however see it from your perspective AB. If it were me though, seeing as how outdated it was I wouldn't care. And it would get me a bit more respect showing that I gave a damn about the dev community here.

Thanks to everyone who did put work into that release that didn't make a fuss of it and tried to be generous.
