I think that problem exists between keyboard and chair.

In the client archive thoroughly read the file "ReadMe.rtf". It begins:-
Personal Priston Tale Clientand continues until you have installed the client, and are considering ways to improve the system. You may try doing the same thing with the file of the same name in the server archive. :ott1:
Version 1.0.0

Maby alot of the people who cant get their servers going are like me, who havnt done anything like this before:)u gotta learn somewhere right? x.x
I'm not sure what you mean by 3 different maps?
Yes, you can use Daemon tools. I used to, before Vista. (not particularly because of the OS but the extra crud they added to it, and the good stuff they took out of the "free" version when I needed to upgrade it:huh:)
I guess it's hard for me to believe, because installing a program was a matter of loading a 25min audio cassette in sections into my computer, modifying the basic bootstrap(s) for my FDC firmware and saving it to floppy disc. :/: (frequently making alterations because the photocopy hand typed manual mentioned Interface 1 and Waferdrive syntax but not the BetaDOS or +D interfaces I used) Then clearing out the guff I don't want to free up a few more Kbs or patch it for 64 column text mode. (not normally available)
I assume that kids today are used to installing PopCap games and wiping out the spyware and nag-screens before playing them. Or getting Steam downloads and stripping Steam, or patching NoCD on boxed ones. (Stuff I consider pretty much the modern equivalent)

Like that xd/(3 maps) xD
Folders! (or directories... going back to my 8-bit days we used to call them "catalogues")
jaja sorry xD
We opened the game server(4069 file) Is the the whole server?
But still i have no file mounted with deamon tools cuz i have no idea what to mount.
Updated first post. Now includes the first part of a Video guide on it's use. Parts 2 and 3 will have to wait till I'm back from vacation. Part 1 shows how to build an ISO on your desktop PC to install on your server PC. (of course, you should never install a PT server on your desktop PC at home, it conflicts with too many other things you are likely to want to do with such a machine) Part 2 will illustrate installing on your Server PC, and I want to give some "errata" prior to releasing a "bugfix" for some of the things I discovered when doing that which nobody has ever reported! This is still Beta because nobody ever talks to me about specific issues, though I do get "it don't work". Specific bug reports are valuable to me, and will be valuable to you too! If you run into specific problems, please do report them to me.
Okay, mostly typos. First, in the servers GameServer folder (where Server4096A.exe, Server4096K.exe and Server4096J.exe are) open hotuk.ini and amend the line:-to read:-Code:*SERVER_AUTOSTART
There is a double \ in the source for the setup program which stops it locating the gsar utility, which means replacement in the final hotuk.ini will have to be performed manually.Code:*SERVER_AUTOPLAY 1
After install open that file again and search for "<Path>" and replace it with the path to your server. Other gsar operations on <IP> and <Name> seem to be working okay so maybe I had a little *fit* at the keyboard as I was typing. (I've yet to check out the source, but install suggests that gsar couldn't be found 3 times... this was the only "error" I could find though)
The final part should contain making the Client installer and installing it on you desktop PC prior to distributing it to your friends. :D:
Thanks to powew for making me revisit this project, and for actually providing some useful feedback. Please let me know how you and your brother get on. :thumbup1:
hi!...im new here!.i am currently trying to test your PPT..i already downloaded all the files needed,i already installed the client, the server ...but my problem is i cannot open the server4096A.exe...or is that the right file to open the server?..or the HotukMgr.exe one?..because when i open server4096A.exe it says the error in my attachment...
i can launch HotukMgr.exe but when i open the client it says unable to connect..
and also how can i register an account in my PPT webpage?...i dont know how to open it :ott1: sorry for such a noob question..im trying my best to learn how to make things right..
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS RELEASE !. .im looking forward for helping you find bugs and develop this release ..
btw my operating system is windows 7 32-bit..2.5 GB ram, intel core duo
No problem ryanocampo1. A few of those sound like issues I bring up in the 2nd video I'm working on. (will probably go up early next week)
Server4096A.exe is correct, but it should really be renamed Server4096.exe. (as mentioned in the video commentary)
The illustration looks like what happens if you try to run on Vista / Windows 7, or x64 in general. (Don't do that... try something else if x64, Vista or Win7 is all you can find)
Assuming you just have a nice skin in TrueTransparancy / WindowBlinds or such for x86 XP / 2003 then check that you have all the files from the clients Char and Field copied into the server folder. The only files it will actually use are .smd, .smb & .inx. (or their uncached .ase and .ini forms) It could be as simple as disabling (explicit exclude) DEP for the executable, or a corrupted (or even missing) data file though.
The address looks quite odd to me, because I would expect 0xf18c to be somewhere in the BIOS or memory mapped IO range. o.O So I'm not surprised Windows isn't happy with the instruction. I am surprised the server tried to access that location.
I'll also assume you amended hotuk.ini in accordance with my last post. (after the setup program completed) And, thinking about it; that you have actually run the setup program, and aren't trying to run the server from your hard drive after extracting, but without having installed it. (this is my "is it turned on, have you plugged it into the mains?" idiot-proofing)
I can see me posting a mini patch very soon, and then getting to work on the next version of this release.
hmm..i can remember i did all the instructions..i read all the post in this thread just to make sure i didnt miss something important.i also amend the two lines in the hotuk.ini.
maybe ill try to reformat my pc and change my OS,. because i already experience the 0xf18c error back then.and ill post my feed back here again if something goes wrong xD
hmm..ill be waiting for your patch and your video.thank you for your response and effort ! youre such a help
A reformat is a pain in the butt, but I can see one coming for my PC too... I'm actually considering either going back to Vista or over to Linux. :O:
Much better, I frequently recommend people set the server up on a Virtual Machine. Both MS VirtualPC 2007 and Oracle VirtualBox are completely free of change.
VMWare Player is often more of a trial version of the paid packages, but it's perfectly capable for this task. They ask for a registration, which is "free of charge". (they will, of course, spam you in-box) The seasoned web-bargin-hunter will find they allow 3rd parties to offer the latest version without registration.
You know, legal & reputable people like:-I'm just a bit bummed that MajorGeeks only link to the VMWare page, and the most recent version Tucows host is v1.0.0.
One of the greatest advantages of these solutions is the "snapshot" feature, which is like making a Ghost backup of the drive before continuing. (without the usual space requirement for the backup) Any alterations after a snapshot can be rolled back. (like the "Time Machine" on recent versions of Apples' OS X system, or System Restore if it took note of every single file and setting across all users) But it may be worth noting that this feature is disabled in VMWare Player, (only comes into effect from Workstation on, as far as I can see) In VirtualPC it's called Difference Disks, and Undo.
Personally I use VirtualBox, and we have licenses for various VMWare products where I work. It's been a while since I used VPC, but it was blindingly fast when working with Windows guest OS.Edit:-Spoiler:If your host is not Windows, there is a modified version of the Quick Emulator (QEMU) which replaces CPU emulation with hardware, kernel level virtualization technology, called KVM-QEMU, and it was actually this which Innotek adapted (with the open source community) to use user mode hardware virtualization in VirtualBox. (before they where bought by Sun, and Sun where bought by Oracle) Both projects remain open source, but Oracle don't seem to have kept the "Community Edition" builds. You can still get the source repository and try out experimental patches shared by developers on their forums, or "port" it to a platform Oracle don't target (like Android or BeOS) and such.Edit2:-I forgot to respond to that too... I guess you installed BabyWeb, and it now starts with your computer? (checked the tickbox for web services in the setup for the server) If so, then you should be able to register an account at http://localhost/. Other users will need to know your IP, and just put "http://" in front of that, or you will need to set up a domain name which resolves to that IP. On a LAN, a domain controller will provide DNS, and even WINS name resolution often works in a browser, sometimes even in Workgroup / Home Group situations... but only in Windows to Windows situations. (should be the case here) What that means is that they may be able to use the hostname of your PC after "http://" in their browsers address bar. But only may, without a DNS server / Domain controller, it's not very reliable and the IP is certainly preferred.
hello there bobsobol
well i'm new and this is my very first post LOL so... i have a little issue with your personal PT, i installed the ppt just as the video tutorial said, actually the server worked fine with the alternate executable but the problem is when i try to run the game.exe it starts with a black window and then it closes immediately... my os is windows xp sp3 i'm not using any other server or client but the alternate executables, i don't understand what happened :(
You built the single setup executable for the PPT client with Inno Setup and ran it. Followed the setup wizard all the way to the end and used a shortcut on the start menu or desktop to launch the game?
The PT client crashing at startup is usually because of missing, incorrectly named or placed files. It is possible to launch the games executable (or the alternative) from the extracted download. It won't play from that though, because the folders are organised to optimise compression into the setup file to reduce distribution bandwidth for your pServer / LAN Party or WHY.
That is my suspicion, but you could also have neglected some essential configuration of the setup script or such before compiling. Re-check the ReadMe(.rtf) in the client download.
