Yes, I'd noticed that. It seems to be a change to the scripting style used in Inno Setup between the time I developed the script and somewhere around the time I released it. It's probably also "bad form" on my part, but it was a "bad form" which IS used to allow, and no-longer does. I'm fairly sure I commented on it elsewhere... but thanks for the feedback. It's something I need to remember come update time.
@ALL: When in doubt, ask. It prompts developers to potential user pitfalls they may otherwise not consider.
yes actually you did mentioned on a post before that's why i figured that out :)
thank you so much!
I´m new here but let me ask, i can use this personal priston tale without make that things like SQL and blah blah blah or when i download the PPT , can i use imediatly?
...and that's my excuse to not read anything at all.
Client will work without "things like SQL" but to use server you need to install "blah blah blah".
You can't! You must extract it first!
And you wondering WHY? @__@
xD, thank you vormav :D
lol... well, you where warned, and you did it again. :(: (thanks SheenBR)
In case anyone else wonders...
Actually, the "SQL and blah blah blah" is built in to this release. But you not only have to extract it, you need to copy the client field and char folders in, and then install from a folder, or make a CD and install from that.
The Wizard is pretty self-explanatory.
Oops... I have to bump some important news. :S
It's a sad day... even the cloud is falling off the web. :(
This makes a mess of my recent video, and the follow up is being a pig. (3 days to render, and then it's not quite right... YouTube winging it mustn't exceed 15mins and it's basically 17.5 and so on)
I'm looking for an alternative cloud host, and video 2 is basically done... but proving hard to get to you in a convenient form. Sorry for the delays and any inconvenience.
Mediafire has become a good solution with its folder linking abilities. FileFactory, although slightly annoying to download files if you're not a premium user, has many great options for file uploaders including direct ftp access to upload files. Its worth checking out.
I have to use proxies to access either MediaFire or FileFactory. FileFactory particulaly, as I can at least download direct from MediaFire, even if I can't upload directly to them. :(: IMHO these are two of the worst providers. But maybe that's only from my ISP :/:
OTOH, DropBox are still being very good to me. :D: I don't want to "advertise" here, but if anyone wants a free account with them, I can give you a link that will give my storage there a bump while you're at it.
Hello all,
first post here :blushing:
i was just intrigued by the subject, and reminisced the good times i had years ago with PT. so i had high hopes to set up a personal server in a matter of a few minutes to an hour. so i followed the guide at the beginning of the thread, watched and rewatched the videos posted. but keep getting stuck at the SetupPPT.exe portion.
i follow the setup wizard until the end, but right at the end of the setup it gives me an error saying that "Post.exe" does not exist.
i looked back at the "Gameserver" folder and low and behold it wasn't not there. so i started over, re-extracted the server file and tried to find "Post.exe" before swapping in the 619 server repack. but the best i could find was a "Post" application. i tried running "SetupPPT.exe" again but it still gets to the very end and tells me "Post.exe" doesnt exist.
I even watched the tutorial and the "Post" application appears in my folder where the "Post.exe" application should be right off the bat. So am i missing something? Did the file not download correctly? I was really hoping for a good experience, but my lack of troubleshooting finesse and programming knowledge make my hope waver. :*: I've read through countless threads hoping anyone would have the same problem as me, but to no avail.
Any and all help would greatly appreciated, as i was excited that everything seemed to work just as put out, minus that sneaky "Post.exe" application.
Again Advance thank you!
cheers~
Either don't delete Post.exe from the original PPT folder (any .exe is considered an application, and ofc Explorer hides the ".exe" part at the end of the name if you leave it in "I'm an idiot who can't operate an iPhone even if you give me a 50 page manual" mode) or remove the following lines (No. 69 and 88 ... which will, of course, be 87 if you already deleted line 68) from PPTServer.iss in the gnu\src folder:-then recompile SetupPPT.exe. (or... I'm guessing you don't see ".exe" on the end of that either ... see how confusing Windows is compared to Linux? Do you see it now?)Code:Filename: "{app}{\}Post.exe"; Parameters: """{code:GetVar|Name}"" ""{code:GetVar|IP}"" ""{code:GetVar|Server}"" ""{code:GetVar|User}"" ""{code:GetVar|Pass}"" "
Source: "{src}{\}GameServer\Post.exe"; DestDir: "{app}"; Flags: external deleteafterinstall
Either will solve this problem.
There is nothing wrong with the Windows "default" view, if you are actually using a Mac... because on a Mac, that view would be a complete and accurate representation of the file system. Linux doesn't usually give you the option to hide vital information, and Windows servers default to the view that most users (even most of the regular office workers I work with) set Windows up to. ie. "Dear Windows, Please don't hide vital information which confuses the heck out of me if I can't see it!"
You can ignore the fact that I'm showing details with the extension and just stonking big, ugly tiles in the default view too. That's not the option you are looking for. It's under Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> "Hide extensions for known file types" ... Untick it.
If you are using Vista, or Windows 7 (as illustrated above) then you will also find that Windows now chooses to hide the all important menu in order to get to those options... electing instead to fill the top of each window with crap that I never use and rarely take any notice of. :(: To see the menu again (temporarily) you can just press the Alt key... sadly I know of no way to get rid of the "common tasks" bar across the top, which contains only tasks I pretty much never perform, and certainly never from that bar. Godda love MS UI design team.
--- EDIT ---
Actually, IDK where the source for Post.exe is. I know I wrote it, and have a vague idea what it was supposed to do, but I thought I included all the source code I created for PPT in that folder... and I don't see it now. :/:
Post.exe is there, but it's a program I wrote to run a search and replace on the configuration files and fill in the details you typed during installation... so I should have included the source code. Looks like I wrote it in freeBASIC, but I suspect I could just as easily have used AutoIt, or C, or just compiled a batch script. I seem to remember thinking on that decision for quite a while. What I don't understand is why I didn't include the source code with the release, as I intended. I suspect it simply got missed.
It was my understanding that I had released all the source code to all the programs I wrote in the release. I doubt I would have kept any source code anywhere else, because I presumed it was in the release. So, it's like forgetting a file when you do a backup, and then needing to restore from that backup. :(:
It doesn't make much difference to you, unless you wanted to change what Post.exe does, or see how it works. It was for such people that I intended all my source code should be included. (as well as to be a backup for myself)
okay so i just deleted everything and started from scratch. i got past the "post.exe" error just fine. but now when the installer tries to set up and configure Microsoft sql. it continually claims i have an instance of the same name, and to choose another.
where would i go in order to change the intended instance for the setup wizard to choose a different instance name? i've spent too many hours trying to figure out why it claims i have an instance of the same name and tracking down said instance and my brain is ready to repress PT altogether because it's giving me so much grief. lol
wait. nvm :blushing: just figured it out after i posted. we all have our stupid moments.... right? :?:
You absolutely cannot "delete everything and start again from scratch". You may try to uninstall everything and start again from scratch, but since it upgrades your OS to the point where it can play PT, and may change your OS in ways it cannot reverse during uninstall / reinstall, you may find you have to format and either re-image or re-install your OS from scratch.
This is why I highly recommend using a Virtual Machine, and "snapshots" or roll-back points. I've not even had much luck with Windows "System Restore Points" in these situations. But restoring a Ghost image (I don't necessarily mean Norton Ghost, but something like Drive Image XML or Paragon Drive Backup Express or HDClone or ... many more) of your system partition should be fine.
You just have to remember to make it before you install MS-SQL.
I'm sorry about that, but I can't legally redistribute MS-SQL Express in any way that does not use Microsofts' installer, and their installer doesn't always uninstall correctly (or completely enough for you to just reinstall cleanly afterwards) ... which is where the problem lies.
