How to open the server on a dedicated server host ??

As above guys.

as you all know i can now run all versions successfully on a lan.. however ive a question for those running a dedicated server host.

A dedicated server host supplies the case drives , memory to spec and operating system only.. NO graphics cards..Yes some russian hosts have graphics cards but at minimum 700 euros per month plus ? not for me.

i dont think any of you guys are paying that sort of money. so it must be without.

There for how do you guys open the server to public when you cannot run a client from the server-box. ???.

external connection cannot connect because server is closed.

advice or a share of knowledge would be appriciated on this one please guys.

@alan110 It is no different than running it on a lan. The instructions haven't changed that much except that you don't use port forwarding unless you are behind a router. But, in the case of leasing a server online this will not be an issue in most cases because it uses a dedicated line that should be opened with the ports needed. As far as the software you run on it just give it some thought. It is called a SERVER not CLIENT lol. So you would use the client external from the server. Here is another thought as well. Most leased servers online have remote access so there is no need for a graphics card. This is how they allow their clients access to the servers instead of having to drive or fly for hours just to install you programming on the server. And another thing....Surf the web. There are cheaper servers for lease than that. 700 Euros and you could purchase the machine. LOL

many thanks for a quick reply m8.. @ the 700 euros i nearly fell off my char lol that included a graphics card hahahaha.

ive a dedicated server m8 in Germany always been cheap for me..ok reason i asked is that ive put my k4 up there as a test but the k4 client will not run from the server gui prob i assumed was graphics issue. client and server files run ok here on my home server which has a graphics card ^^.

all ips , firewall rules server ports work as should all dbs and zones running client has the external server ip loaded wont run gui prob no error log in client . ?

il port the k5 and client up there see what happens with that.

Don't use the server for the client. Only use it for the web and the server files. You need to run the client external like on your pc to test. Make sure you add the patch and game folders to the web if not included yet. And also make sure that you update both the SSTantra(Updater) to point to your server online as well as the serverlist.txt file in your client to run locally(on your personal pc and NOT the server). If you have any problems and think it may be a port issue then this is what I suggest you do. Start your server up completely then test to make sure that the ports for each zone is being seen utilizing an online port checker. This is a site that I like to use to check online ports and it is very accurate - http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/port-scan/. I am sure you will like so many will try to see if the dbsrv, msgsrv,itmserv, and sqldaemon are available but, I will inform you that the DBSRV is not going to be seen from the port scanner. I don't know about the rest but, the zones will definitely show that there is a connection when you run them if it isn't blocked by the server company or your firewall on the server.

Revised** - If you have the same error on your personal pc make sure that your video drivers are updated and/or lower the settings for the client to 16 bit and lower resolution. This has seemed to work in the past for me but, I have no idea if it will work for you. And make sure that your DirectX drivers are the latest edition because this sometimes will be an issue as well.

to sir alan110 my suggestion is that, edit your server's admin.txt and replace it with your current IP on the client computer. run the client and make sure it connects. The Update.exe should point to your server's IP, the HTLauncher.exe should have the same link as your login web. the HTSmessage also, you need to edit line 301 to 307 except line 305. it should point to your login web.

we made mistakes on the static IP. most of us have. but test it again and again until you can connect and your client updates. best regards.

Ok online server runs no problems at all solved the gm command thing had to find zone with no encryption ^^.

second problem was resolved by deleting my sql data bases reinstalling them and changing web site.......web site I was using although functioning was in fact corrupting its data input to sql..

I change and edited a new web site and this now records data in sql correctly.

server now runs with no problems what so ever and glients can connect no problems at all..

now going to move on and dev the k6 server files il report back on my progress guys.

Hello Guys.

Good work done over the last few days.

I can now report to you all that I've finally cracked my main problem, I edited the Admin.txt to include my home server ip, this enabled me to login with a gm char from home server and open both the k5 and k6 servers to the public.
