How to properly shutdown a server?

in my idea,
before the server going down or have maintenance, just announce to the server that the server will be shutting down,don't backup the account files before the server going down, just close the dbsrv first before the other zones,
to have rollback or items lost,
Some players duplicate their items after the server down, 50% will be success if before the server down and make copy the dbsrv accounts.

So you mean its only dbsrv the i must close first?
if you don't want to rollback .. make sure you have no player connected to your server
Thats the problem right now. I have players ingame, i want to avoid rollbacks ingame. Other onlinegame have a proper shutdown for their files. But tantra dont have any tool to save the datas and will not encounter any rollbacks or lost of items.
Is there any safest way to avoid those problems?
force player to log out .. if they don't want then do not blame server if rollback for some players

hayz, the rollback occur when you backup your files before the server shutdown. I repeat don't backup the account files if the server online. Shutdown first the server then make a backup.
Why DBSRV first to close? The DBSRV i think is the brain of all the server files. When you shutdown the DBSRV the all server files connected to the DBSRV will be shutdown too even if there running, Try it in the test mode,
Try this experiment.
Put some items in the character then shutdown it, and then backup the account files.
Backup the account files then put some items in the character then shutdown it.
You try this then see what will happen when you login in the character.
