    [Discussion] Dedi/VPS?

Hello guys. I'm here to say which is better dedi or vps? Please tell me more about them. And tell me which site to get them at.

After that, can anyone set up the dedi/vps for me?
    pm me for contact info.

    Thanks.

I guess I can help set it up.

    Here's some sites:
    www.limestonenetworks.com
    www.maple-hosting.com
    www.theplanet.com

Those are some dedicated server sites.

    Here's some VPS sites.
www.maple-hosting.com they also sell webhosting, and dedicated servers.
    www.vpsland.com

    yep.

    EDIT:
I'd use FranTech for Web Hosting, since they don't give 2 shits about C&D.

Iffy about the dedicated servers there, someone is FranTech good for dedis?

If you ask me, I would recommend Server 4 You. They are a European based hosting solutions company. I currently host RageScape on one of their dedicated servers, and i must say, I've been with them for well over one year now, and throughout my period and experience with the dedicated server, we've barely experienced ANY problems or downtime.

They also don't care about pornography, warez, etc.

I second that, I know a few friends who own Runescape servers, and even made it so far for them to require to buy a dedicated server.

I've asked them about there services and they haven't said one bad thing. They've been with them for over 5 months now.

If your starting from small, get a VPS. Don't jump into a dedicated server only to realize you do not have enough to keep it alive.

    I agree without doubt.
Also, Regarding FranTech, I respect them showing up on the industry all of a sudden but on one side they say they're up for years now and on the other hand they've been having a "Just set up business" problems, I really don't get it, If someone can explain, It'll be great. :)

I was on a nice dedi for 4 months with barely 20 ppl on at a time. If you are having below 50 players, I suggest you save $ and stick to VPS. I regret getting Dedi straight away. I could have hosted for 1 year + on a vps with that extra money.

We moved out of Equinix, Chicago (steadfast to be exact). Our current customer base required that we have better latency to Asia instead of Europe so we moved to Portland, Oregon.

When we came here we bought all new hardware (our current gear is on a palette coming from Chicago). There was some issues due to the CPU's being too new and some of our software not accounting for changes in the CPU design (the new XEON 5520's are a lot different than the 5320's we were using in Chicago).

Our requirements changed very quickly once we got here as well requiring more power, more SQL horses (went from a small dual core for our dedicated SQL to a dual quad just last month). I'll admit we've had our issues with some crashes and a breaker popping due to faulty electrical work by the datacenter but we have an onsite tech 24/7 making sure any issues are resolved right away.

The power of our vps's can be attested to the fact that ragezone and kryptodev are hosted out of VPS's themselves and have, at least as far as I can see, no lag or complaints.

Later this month Frantech is installing it's own routers and announcing it's own BGP routes as a stepping stone to us getting our own IP space from ARIN as well.

If you'd like a picture of our rack let me know, i'll gladly post a new one :-)

    Thanks,

    Francisco

I would recommend www.limestonenetworks.com they have reasonable prices and I have been renting a dedi from them for over 6 months now, and its had 100% uptime, except for one billing mistake which caused a short downtime, other then that their datacenter is top notch.
