Well, lots of DDos'ers do it for payment's only or if you pissed the wrong people off. Payment depends on target I guess.
In my opinion DDOS'ing someone just shows incapability of doing something serious yourself. So basically, as the lowest way out since you can't do shit to someone's server you start annoying them but taking down their ports...
A very recent example of pathethic scriptkiddies is Diogo.
DDoS'ing takes no skill at all. open rDos, type in port and IP, and bam, the (Whatever you attack) is down in seconds. is there a point? no. It's mainly used to annoy people, or for revenge reasons. On a server I used to play on it got DDoSed because someone didn't get accepted as GM. DDoSers think they're pro. No. just no.
What's the deal with DDoS protection?
Do hosting companies not offer such protection? :S
It's frowned upon. People do it because they think it is funny. Or because they want to teach the person they are DDoSing a lesson. There isn't really a way to protect yourself from this. You can get protection from certain methods but never from the whole concept 'DDoS'.
It's inevitable if you have a website.
Just a matter of who you piss off the most.
Some offer, some don't. You have to understand there are physical hardware which costs a lot of money.

Luckily, I have DDOS protection on all my server ports.

I was a Admin/GM in FridayMS. Fact is, Diogo told me that he had somewhat a reason to DdoS them. I don't think DdoSing is the solution here, but what kind of reason is it to make a server with 200+ go to 30+? I mean, come on. That's just messed in the head. FridayMS still decided to fix it, and iRelapse ( Braedon, Owner ) quit on it because of Diogo. He made it so nobody would join it again. We went down to the 16's.
