I've had my experiences with both DDoS and DoS. DDoS is very hard to block since it is very effective. Last time we had that, I had to block every IP except my own and then look through logs to weed out the many IPs. DoS is fairly stupid. Yeah it takes down the site or something after a while, but it's really easy to stop. Also most people doing DoS attempt the attack on their home PC, which is laughable.
That either costs money, or you don't. You can close connections that connect to ports that are coded, but not ports that are like port 80, or port 3306, through coding, anyways, which is what I'm assuming you're talking about from your last releases.Originally Posted by jon5477

The only reason this is such an issue is that the victims are leechers that have no idea what they are doing. You can hardly DDoS someone that does.
I laugh at DDoS'ers and DoS'ers. Especially DoS'ers. They say they're so "l33t" (speak normally), yet they're oblivious to the fact that DoS'ing wastes your bandwidth.
Not at all... you can take down companies with a strong botnet. Getting DDoS from 8 IPs is hard enough, I don't think anyone could handle thousands of IPs.

You are right. Twice. People here are not capable of directing such an attack. There are more factors to launching it than just being able to, though.
But let's face it. The time it takes to succesfully DDoS a private server is not worth the result. You can easily take down a leecher server. But succesful servers with techy staff won't go down so easily. Basically, you have to have no life at all to perform consistant DDoS's on such servers.
Let's take Moongra for example. If i were to DDoS this server, it would take me an assload of time. Not to mention that the method i would use has most likely been patched. So i would have to invent new methods, which would take even more time.
In conclusion; people who DDoS small servers have no right to think they are all that. A child could do this. Though, it has little to do with having no life. Unless you do nothing else, all day long. Like Diogo.
