    Crossbowman Guide

In this guide, I'm going to show you what my training plan was from 10-100. I'll also offer alternate training patterns, as well as skill builds. There will be detailed descriptions on how to job advance, and the fastest way possible to job advance. It will be split into posts containing each job, since we are restricted on the amount of images per post.

Ok so... Crossbowmen are pretty much the bad asses of MapleStory. You might ask, why when Wild Hunters are the same thing but better. No. Wild Hunters are not the same thing. We don't need a Jaguar/Cougar/Kitty cat to handle ourselves Crossbowmen were always the underdogs since the beginning of the game. Their equips have always been the cheapest, they require little funding, and until recently, were among the weakest in terms of DPS (Damage per second) and DPM (Damage per minute). Since the Big Bang patch, Crossbowmen have been given the boost they desperately needed and are now often considered great bossers. We have the single strongest attacking skill in the game. A skill that, when used effectively, does 12m DPM, not including your attacks in between. Anyways, enough chitchat... let's get to it.

    Lv. 10: Becoming an Archer

Head to Henesys and enter the portal under the big sign that reads "Mushroom Park". Begin heading right. About 10 steps into the new map, a yellow circle (hidden portal) will appear when you near it. Press up on it and bam.. you get teleported to the other side of the map, to the statue. Drop down and head into the tree fort on the right. Talk to Athena Pierce, meet the requirements and job advance into a Crossbowman. Congrats! That's the easiest thing you're ever going to do. So let's review the new skills you get, shall we?

    Bowman Basics
    Spoiler:

    Critical Shot
    Increases Critical Hit Rate.
Lv. 1: Critical Hit Rate: +2%
Lv. 10: Critical Hit Rate: +20%
Lv. 20: Critical Hit Rate: +40%
    Eye of Amazon
Increase the attack range of bows and crossbows.
    Lv. 1: Range: +24.
    Lv. 5: Range: +120.
    Focus
Enhances Accuracy and Avoidability for a given duration
    Lv. 1: MP Cost: 8, Accuracy: +10, Avoidability: +10, Duration: 90 sec
    Lv. 15: MP Cost: 15, Accuracy: +80, Avoidability: +80, Duration: 300 sec
    Arrow Blow
Fires arrows at up to 3 enemies. Only costs 1 arrow.
    Lv. 1: MP Cost: 10, Damage: 143%
    Lv. 10: MP Cost: 12, Damage: 170%
    Lv. 20: MP Cost: 15, Damage: 200%
    Double Shot
Fires two arrows at an enemy.
    Lv. 1: MP Cost: 8, Damage: 83%
    Lv. 10: MP Cost: 10, Damage: 110%
    Lv. 20: MP Cost: 14, Damage: 140%
    Recommended Skill Build:
Lv. #, Skill, points to add, (total at level)
    Lv. 10: Arrow Blow +1 (1)
    Lv. 11: Eye of Amazon +3 (3)
Lv. 12: Eye of Amazon +2 (MAX), Critical Shot +1 (1)
    Lv. 13-18: Critical Shot +3 (19)
Lv. 19: Critical Shot +1 (MAX), Arrow Blow +2 (3)
    Lv. 20-24: Critical Shot +3 (18)
    Lv. 25: Critical Shot +2 (MAX), Focus +1 (1)
    Lv. 26-29: Focus +3 (13)
Lv. 30: (Before Job Advancing) Focus +2 (MAX), Double Shot +1 (1)
You might ask yourself... well why did you max Arrow Blow instead of Double Shot? Well, Double shot has a better overall damage, in terms of stability... this is true. Arrow Blow on the other hand, makes training a lot faster because it's your first mob skill, able to hit 3 mobs from level 1. Believe me, you'll fly through the first 20 levels on your way to the job advancement easier with Arrow Blow.

    Recommended Training Spots:
Lv. #, Map Name, Mobs Lv. #
    Lv. 10-14: Spore Hill (6/7)
Lv. 15-18: Mushmom Forest Trail/ Blue Mushmom Forest Trail (7/10)
Lv. 20-25: Golem Temple 4 Hidden Dungeon (26)
Lv. 26-30: Forest of Evil Energy 1/2 (30)
[LEFT]Now.. since Big Bang was released, the accuracy formula has pretty much gone to shit. Basically, for every level you are below a Mobs' level, you lose 5% accuracy. What does this mean? Pretty much this... You can't hit shit if you try to train on a Mob that is 10 levels higher than you. You'll hit maybe once every 5-6 attacks (even though logically you should be hitting at least 1 for 2). Well, this is why we chose Focus instead of Double Shot. Even though Focus isn't that great due to the accuracy formula, it still gives us a boost, so we'll be able to train easier on Mobs 4-5 levels higher than us, than other jobs would. Also, you're probably curious as to why I said train on Mushmom/Blue Mushmom. Let's put it this way. After Big Bang... they got nerfed to the point level 10s can kill them. They are rarely hunted now, and if you get a full channel cycle, you will level around 5-6 times from Mushmom alone. It doesn't take long to kill her, probably around 2-4 minutes, and it's not a huge pot burn as long as you jump when she jumps.

    Lv. 30: Becoming a CrossBowman
Congrats! You've made it to level 30. Now is where you start to see the potential of a Crossbowman. First, go job advance. Follow these easy steps.
    • Head to Henesys and talk to Athena Pierce
    • Bring the letter Athena gives you to the Job Instructor. She can be found in the same map as the Golem Mini Dungeon entrance
    • Once teleported inside, proceed to kill mobs until you collect 30 Black Marbles. Be sure to keep track yourself. There is no indicator like there would be for quests.
    • Complete the "test" and return to Athena Pierce. She'll give you the option of becoming a Hunter or Crossbowman.
    • Obviously choose Crossbowman, otherwise this guide is useless for you -_-

You are now officially a Crossbowman! You'll notice a decent increase in HP and MP, as well as your power, simply from job advancing. Now that you've advanced, let's take a look at the skills.
    Spoiler:

    Lv. 20: MP Cost: 15, Damage: 280%, Knock-back Chance: 100%, Max Enemies Hit: 6, Distance: 300
    Iron Arrow
Lv. 1: MP Cost: 20, Damage: 283%, Max Monsters Hit: 6
Lv. 10: MP Cost: 22, Damage: 310%, Max Monsters Hit: 6
Lv. 20: MP Cost: 26, Damage: 340%, Max Monsters Hit: 6
You've gained quite a few useful skills, some which you'll be using until end game. Soul Arrow is a godsend, making your cost for arrows disappear forever. Enhanced Basics takes your already powerful Arrow Blow and makes it even more powerful. CrossBow Booster drastically increases your attacking speed and can make the difference between killing a boss in 5 minutes, or killing a boss in 2 minutes.

    Recommended Skill Build
    Lv: 30: Iron Arrow +1 (1)
    Lv. 31: CrossBow Mastery +3 (3)
    Lv. 32: CrossBow Mastery +2 (5), CrossBow Booster +1 (1)
    Lv. 33: CrossBow Booster +3 (4)
    Lv. 34: CrossBow Booster +1 (5), Soul Arrow: CrossBow +2 (2)
    Lv. 35-36: Soul Arrow: CrossBow +3 (8)
Lv. 37: Soul Arrow: CrossBow +2 (MAX), CrossBow Mastery +1 (6)
    Lv 38-41: CrossBow Mastery +3 (18)
Lv. 42: CrossBow Mastery +2 (MAX), Iron Arrow +1 (2)
Lv. 43-48: Iron Arrow +3 (MAX)
    Lv. 49-51: Enhanced Basics +3 (9)
Lv. 52: Enhanced Basics +1 (MAX), CrossBow Booster +2 (7)
    Lv. 53-56: CrossBow Booster +3 (19)
Lv. 57: CrossBow Booster +1 (MAX), Final Attack: CrossBow +2 (2)
Lv. 58-63: Final Attack: CrossBow +3 (MAX)
    Lv. 64-69: Power Knock-Back +3 (18)
Lv. 70 (Before Job Advancing) Power Knock-Back +2 (MAX), Double Shot +1 (2)
Now.. You might ask yourself.. well why would anyone max Soul Arrow before Mastery? Simple. If you plan on doing mainly CPQ, you only need to use the skill twice tops to last the entire round. Believe it or not, that little bit of extra time you'd spend rebuffing can be costly of valuable exp. Also, when out in the world training, it requires much fewer trips to town for arrows/potions due to longer duration with less MP cost. With this build, I was able to literally solo 1.3k CP in CPQ by level 35, and that's without any funding at all. Yes... Crossbowmen got that much better. Power Knock-back was left for last because let's face it... it's literally useless. Along with Big Bang, came the ability for bowmen of both paths to shoot arrows regardless of how close Mobs were to them. Why waste valuable SP into a skill early on when it is no longer? Lastly, Enhanced Basics was maxed before booster because believe it or not, even though Iron Arrow hits more Mobs, you'll find numerous times it's not worth the extra MP to use it on Mobs of 1-4. This is why the skill is maxed early on, because Arrow Blow uses less MP than Iron Arrow, and does roughly the same damage, but only to 3 Mobs... making it much better for smaller groups.

    Recommended Training Spots
    Lv. 30-45: CPQ
    Lv. 46-53: ScareCrows
Lv. 54-58: Drumming Bunnies or Dark Drakes
Lv. 59-65: Robos and Master Robos
    Lv. 66-70: Voodoos and Hoodoos
Following this training guide, it may take you a little longer to level, but you'll thank me for it. Drumming Bunnies have a chance to drop Chaos Scrolls and Dark Crystal Ores, both very valuable items to sell. Dark Drakes have a good chance to drop Steelies (so it seems since many people have them now), which can give you a pretty penny. Robos and Master Robos have amazing money potential considering it's set up almost perfect for CrossBowmen with Iron Arrow. You simply use Iron Arrow until a row is dead, drop down, repeat, drop down, repeat. It's a nice steady spawn and can easily rake you in a few mil before you're finished. Voodoos and Hoodoos might be slightly hard to find due to their popularity, but once you get a map, the exp gain is golden.

    to be continued...

From 20-30 you can go to those skeletons in Halloween town and get to level 30 there. It takes about 2 hours to gain those 10 levels, and they give 72 exp. They also hit very low, so you can kill them easily.

Read the section guidelines. Is everyone that ignorant to new stickied threads? Gotta try a more effective way of getting everyone to see them then I guess...

Ok.. the next person to say something about how this should be in the Tutorial section will be Warned. As clearly stated before, the Discussion section allows in-game specific tutorials for each region of MS, as well as discussion of content for each region. Read them guys... they'll show you the light, I prahmiss -_-

    66-70, goto jesters.
There is a room in the mansion where only four spawn at a time. (if that is, you are in a populated server where the spacey jester map is unavailable)
It may seem little however it's surprisingly effective.
