Stop flaming the guy and just help him. Hi dude, welcome. Just go to the toturial section, you will find various guides how to set up a server with the version you'd like.

14 years of age is nothing....it should be easy to learn at your age since your brain is more developed and decision making is a bit better
read tutorials and read some coding books

You're not answering his question either. He wants to know how to start DEVELOPING, not setting up his server.

Maybe you should read the question before answering.

Anyways for the server development, you would primarily use Java here. But there are server sources which are C#, Delph, C++, etc.

You just need to start with the little things (NPCs, etc.) and work your way up.

    That's how I did it.

I agree with Jiki. Try something simple like npcs. There are tools that can help you. Once you get a feel for something basic like that try a language like java. Google basic concepts of it and a guide to start from scratch. Then apply that knowledge to server like things. I dove right in to npcs and it was a great start but I stupidly skipped basics and looked at it by a logical prespective not a student kind.

I sat in on a college class of basic coding for java basics and I found it ironic that they were doing math functions like + - math.sqrt and what not and the professor asked if i got it and i did because its basic math but I attempted to teach myself math randoms before i learned other more fundamental concepts.

I guess what Im saying is start simple and dont rush it. Dont be scared to ask questions along the way. If nothing else you may start a discussion where the more experienced coders share what they have learned. Theres always more then one way to write a program and more then one coders views is the best way to find your own.

I'm 14...and I believe I actually started to try and learn to code this year...or was it late 13s?

Either way, welcome, to start, pick up a copy of a source, and learn stuff.
    Yay.

Learn your way up the coding latter or whatever, or hire an experienced developer to do it for you. Honestly in my personal experience: it took me hours to code the first NPC in my life, but i eventually learned how to code NPCs. You pick up knowledge as you go, thats the only advice ill have for you.

    Java is cross platform....
but then again, C# is easier to code (in my opinion)
C++ has good management, but you have to make all the pointers
Also, when you say C? do you mean managed C? objective C? unmanaged C? (lol at that)

Anyway, for a beginner, I would say to start with java since most of the MapleStory community at Ragezone know/use java; making your chances of getting help easier.
