MapleStory: Creation
i have always wondered o-o. what in nexons RIGHT MIND. came up with a game called maplestory. i mean there like a multi-million dollar company now but i dont understand how they came up with the idea?.
idk if that has been discussed before, if so just send me a link on this thread or something.
i mean. like. i guess in a way. maplestorys Side Scrolling 2d look is very unique.
Maybe they were high idk -_-

I'm not too sure how they came up with the idea either. IMO it started as a simple 2D side-scrolling game, then they changed stuff as they went on.

They probably named it MapleStory for many reasons. My guess is maple trees change colors throughout the seasons, shows the progression of time, the game is time consuming and thats what they hope for, plus maple trees are pretty nice looking.
Apparently the main idea was about create your own story... and well, MapleStory... You can see that the login is a book over maple leafs, it probably was mean that you enter in your own story, your own chronic that you made.
MapleStory idea, since you really can't tell what was the drug that Kim were smoking while thinking in maple trees... You just can assume... and since it have told that MapleStory comes from DragonGem, then that's probably the reason... they wanted to copy DragonGem's basis, but with some cute characters and a more simple structure... and sociable, just like Club Penguin.
You can look at games made by Zynga, such as FarmVille, such game are hella simple and stupid, but are millionaires ideas...
Here's something that you might not know.
Maplestory for a !very! short time was actually 3d game or at least they tried to make it that. It wasn't released to the public due to the extreme bugs, glitches and space needed to store (said to get up to 4gb, which at the time was quite a lot of space).

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, that was actually an April Fools joke a couple years ago, and I believe the actual game that was supposedly "Maplestory 3D" was actually Dragonica.
Wizet doesn't "own" MapleStory.
They are a division off of Nexon Inc.
Oh to answer your question, people are paid to think of new ideas. They process these ideas and build off them.
