You'd be surprised how many times we get blamed for lagging servers and it was because the owners had inf. loops in new NPC's.
Their servers sat there blazing away at 99% CPU and they didn't think something was wrong with their source. Once I audited their NPC code, I pointed out the error and suddenly, a restart later, they were ~3 - 5% CPU and not a spec of lag.
Most MS servers of decent size have (re)started on us. Many moved onwards to big, fat, dedi's since we didn't have enough RAM to fit their budgets, but given the line up around the block of people looking for service, we can't suck that bad. Flav, Raptor's, Celino (they get/got peaks in the 500 range w/o much issue), Moongra or however their name was spelt, etc.
I mean, this very site has 2500+ people on it right now w/ minimal loading issues. smaller sites have huge clusters deployed, yet Mental and I have it moving smoothly along on a fairly small build.

I am also wondering, how to make it dedicated. A good server? Get my own like Windows Server 2008 R2? I wanna know how i can get a dedicated server for my server. lol
