    A Linux server would be nice .. [Rec Ubuntu, since Ubuntu is more suitable to host a server]

    And Linux is free [Except Red Hat], Window need license ~

    Well for all of the HiddenDev Servers that are in the making we are using Windows Server 2008. * Not advising this but just throw in a key gen for windows activation and there ya go. * But if i had a choice i would deff go with my uBuntu. Thats what all of my Personal OS's are except my main. It runs way faster and smoother than any Windows OS Ever did.

    Get the thing you need only if you know how to use it. Many people are saying Linux for performance records, and I agree that it's fast but you have to know how to use it.

    For windows if you're looking for some I suggest windows server 2003 & 2008

    Actually I would like to know something too. Which is better 2003 or 2008? I reckon 2003 would run a server better by I imagine 2008 would have more security updates.

    Unsure if 2003 > 2008, since Windows Vista < XP, but I've used both, and I saw not much of a difference, maybe because I'm not an advanced person in those matters, but I can tell for sure that Windows SERVER was meant for SERVERS, I thinks that should answer this "DUH" thread.

    @Riku

    Its just like Vista or XP, I'll choose XP. Now its 2003 or 2008, I highly recommend 2003 as it is much more better. I've tried hosting on a 2008 before, but its not that good compared to the 2003 one. Although as what you say the security is much higher, but if you're good in adding security stuffs to your server, it'll be as secure as 2008 one. Nothing much difference.

    I'll go directly answer the question....
    I use Windows XP SP2 that runs via VMware Workstation/Server for running my server files,sql etc.
