Why people use frantech for hosting private servers.

Hey everyone,

today while i was searching around i saw most gaming servers here on ragezone are hosted by frantech.ca . This is one of the the most dummest things you guys can do. The reason is that frantech.ca servers are all onshore which means they all comply with dmca's. So if lets say nexon sends them one your fucked. Mostly all private servers are in fact illeagal and should be hosted with offshore providers. This can be the difference between your server staying up 1 month and a year. Well thats all I have to say. Just a little thought for ya :P. I know this seems like commen sense but people still do it :|

I can't remember the last time we had a MS/etc server hosted with us, likely sometime late last year. Most of the maplestory servers don't last past a couple months because of staff corruption/etc. We also haven't had inventory for sale on the frantech brand in over a year now.

We do have a good hand full of Ragnarok Online servers, but these were ruled legal in a lawsuit gravity had over emulation.

We stopped loading inventory on the Frantech brand after we kept getting nothing but sketchy customers or ones that just try to find every excuse not to pay, or worse, try to use stolen cards/paypals/etc. We actually run a different brand that's quite popular that is targeted at web developers/etc. At some point we'll likely close all sales under the FT brand and just use it as our billing front.

Not saying you did, just bringing up a point :) BuyVM took over our interests and while we have windows plans showing up there, we'll likely leave it to other places to sell it.

It's a shame a few bad apples spoiled it but with them all feeling like they're entitled to free service, they can get it elsewhere.

Not quite, we'll likely think up something fun for it. We always look for fun projects to work on, not just 'well it pays bills'. If we aren't having fun with our company, then it's boring ;)

We did use Frantech once. It wasn't bad at all and Fran did ignore DMCA notices even though the stuff wasn't offshore. However, we did run into some problems, so we switched. Anyways, VoltaicMS rings a bell. Maybe you know one of my friends, who was a GM there.

No one said frantech was offshore , what they did was to ignore the DMCAs they had received. It's still up to us whether to keep it or not. Frantech will less likely be hold responsible at the end of the day if i am not wrong

We challenge BS DMCA complaints but like, if someone goes and rips NEXON's full site, uses their images, etc, then we'll ask them to take it down.

We're strong believers in emulation and we've chatted with many of the large servers that did host with us in the past to get a full idea of what they did with their sources. We had a good idea of any possible problem points and pointed it out to them.

Jacking their full images isn't something we can really condone though.
