[Tut] Editing and Compiling OdinMS using the Eclipse IDE
A Guide To: Editing and Compiling OdinMS using the Eclipse IDE
Note: I'm aware there is a similar guide here, but this guide has pictures and should be easier to follow.
Welcome
Eclipse is an IDE (Integrated Development Enviroment). IDE's have code editors and compilers. We'll be looking at how to use Eclipse to view, edit, and compile the OdinMS java source.
Downloads
Note: If you can't extract a ZIP file, download WinRAR here.
1. Eclipse
Installation
Note: Eclipse doesn't really have an installation process. You simply extract the files in the ZIP.
1. Extract the ZIP file you downloaded (eclipse-java-ganymede-SR1-win32.zip) to the desktop.
2. Open the eclipse folder.
3. Run the file eclipse.exe inside that folder.

4. If you are a first time user, skip this step. When Eclipse is finished loading, if you are a first time user, Eclipse will show this welcome screen:

Click the right arrow to go to the Workbench.
5. Select File->New Java Project. For the project name, enter your desired project name (odinms recommended). Check "Create project from existing source." For the Directory, click Browse... and select the parentfolder of src. (If you don't know what the src folder is, you can recognize it by the folders inside: net->sf->odinms.) src is the folder that contains the OdinMS java source files with alot of other folders.

6. That's it for viewing. To edit the source, simply change it. To compile the source, you can right click the Project Folder and click Build Project.
7. To build a working JAR file to use in your newly edited server, right click the Project Folder and select Export.

Browse... for a destination for the "To archive file:"
8. You will see a JAR file in that directory. Copy that jar file to your dist folder inside your private server folder.
