    [Request] Ascent Compiling Guide

    Seeing that most of the new revs are not working for most people, including myself, and that the compiling guides the ascentemu.com are a bit hard to comprehend. This calls for a step by step guide on how to compile your own ascent. Just a idea, seeing if anyone could do that for us?

    Re: [Request] Ascent Compiling Guide

    find it yet? :)
    I know you need Visual Studio 2003/5/8
    (I'm using VS2005)
    I have this
    Compiling - Ascent Wiki
    but it doesn't help much...
    Code:
    Windows
    Requirements

    You will need either Visual Studio 2003 or Visual Studio 2005. But 2005 is preferred by most of the best rational windows programmers in the scene! (Visual Studio 2008 (and Express) seem to work fine as well.)
    Configuration

    Set "Solutions Configurations" from "Debug" to "Release" or "Hoard" to use the Hoard DLL functions.
    Compilation

    -Click Build Solution and wait. Then in the bin folder will be the new exe and dlls you can use.
    -Don't forget there are 2 solutions to build, 2nd one is scripts folder

    Re: [Request] Ascent Compiling Guide

    From Board Message
    This is NOT my work, but it's what I used when I wanted to learn how to compile and it does work, if done right.
    Code:
    Hello everyone I Hated the Other Tutorial, It only gave some of the information on how to do it, i spent over 5 HOURS To find out I was missing a PPSDK when linked to it was wrong version had to find right version.... So i Decided to update this guide on how i Installed and got SOURCE to work.

    STEP 1 : Dowload of Files Nessesary to Use MSVC++ 2005 Express. :

       1. Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2005 (Dont Use 2008 This platform doesnt work on it) : Download
       2. Microsoft Platform SDK Files (Required MUST HAVE 2003 Not Normal SDK!!) : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-e4c0c0716adb
       3. Download SVN Client at : tortoisesvn.tigris.org
       4. Download the source from svn://emupedia.com/svn/ascent

       5. Download Mirrors of Files

              Microsoft Platform SDK : DOWNLOAD NOW!

              Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2005 : DOWNLOAD NOW!

    At this Point Install Both Files In DEFULT LOCATION's Easyer to work with this tutorial if you do.

    STEP 3 : Configuring MSVC++ EXPRESS To use Platform SDK Files..

       1. Open MSVC++ Studio
    2. Open the ASCENT Project file from the "File/Open Project" Commend (ascentVC80 not ascentVC70) located in *AScent Download Directory*/win/
       3. Go to "Tools/Options"
       4. Go to "Projects and Solutions" Tab located on the left hand side
       5. Go to VC++ Directories
       6. Here You will see a center Dialog with stuff like $(VCIsntallDir)lib You will need to do 3 things on this page.
    7. Click The Icon in the top of the center box wich looks like a foulder icon this will add a new entry Here you will need to put :

              C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Bin

    8. Now Goto the top Right hand side of the Dialog "Show Directories for:" And Select "Library files" and repeat the Add Foulder icon and add this :

              C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Lib

       9. Now On the top right hand under "Show directories for:" Click on Includes and repeat the Add Foulder icon and add this :

              C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Include

      10. Now go into the foulder :

              C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\VCProjectDefaults

      11. And Look for file "corewin_express.vsprops" and modify "AdditionalDependencies=" To look like this :

    AdditionalDependencies="kernel32.lib user32.lib gdi32.lib winspool.lib comdlg32.lib advapi32.lib shell32.lib ole32.lib oleaut32.lib uuid.lib"

      12. Then save and close the text Editor (Please note to open the file use Wordpad not Notepad.) Then Restart VC++ Studio.

    STEP 4 : Configuring Ascent Project

       1. Go to "Build/Configuration Manager"
       2. Select "Release"
       3. Close "Build/Configuration Manager"
       4. Press F7 To Build Project
       5. Build Should Have a Completion of Something like this :

              6 Succesfully - 0 Build Errors

    NOTE * : Please Remind yourself that even if there is a XX amount of WARNINGS the Project is Still good as long as you have 0 Build Errors

    Step 5 : Build Scripts

       1. Open MSVC++ Studio
    2. Open the ASCENT Project file from the "File/Open Project" Commend (ascentVC80 not ascentVC70) located in *AScent Download Directory*/win/
       3. Go to "Tools/Options"
       4. Go to "Projects and Solutions" Tab located on the left hand side
       5. Go to VC++ Directories
       6. Like befor You will see a center Dialog with stuff like $(VCIsntallDir)lib You will need to do 3 things on this page.
    7. Now Goto the top Right hand side of the Dialog "Show Directories for:" And Select "Library files" and repeat the Add Foulder icon and add this :

              *DriveLetter*:\*Ascent Download Directory*\bin\release

    Please Note: If you have Moved the Bin Directory at this point in time its not good move it after the compile of the Scripts are done.

    After Follow the Build Instructions as Located in Step 4 with the files (Project files) Located in the "*Ascent Download Directory*/src/scripts" Directory. Should have 0 Build errors too.

    Please note i havent installed i just compiled it when i get a Working server i will post how to configure the server here.

    COMPLETE Hope this helped alot of people configure and if a GM would make it a STICKY would be nice

    Please tell me what i missed need to fix or anything smile.gif

    I have also added this tutorial i found on wowapprentice using ascent.

    (Remember this version located on wowapprentice is not the LATEST version, this is a working version mostly but has bugs in it, so if you want a COMPLETE version You will still need to follow MY TUTORIAL.)

    Please note : This tutorial is ment for people with LEGIT versions of WINDOWS, Please dont come here saying "I cant update windows cause my activation dont work, Try Phone Activation if Online Activation dont work, I will only help people who have "Legit Versions of XP/VISTA" Sorry about being Blunt, but Dont have the right software dont have the right to play.

    Please go to : http://www.mmonetwork.net/ascenttut/index.html TO view this tutorial.

    :punch: Every time I do this it says:
    Error * Can't connect to host 'emupedia.com': No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. In my repository Browser :P
