    Re: - MaNGOS ~Amber~ Releases 3.x.x

Hi there, I have lately started exploring the world of EMU servers and I am quite fastidious when downloading one. - since I do not know much about them -

I have downloaded the 3.3.3.a Version today - The best one I have seen thus far - but my interest alone is not enough to get this server to do what I want it to do. So I'm looking for some advice on how to set up my server.

    Spesifications:

    - I want my family (Local network) to play on the server.
    - I want to put the server Online - Doesnt have to be on when my pc is off - So that my friends can connect to my server over the internet.
    - I want to be able to play on the server myself, not like some dedicated games that only allows other players.

That is it, it might seem simple to you guys but I have no idea what I'm doing thus I am here.

I want a step-by-step guide, like After i have installed and assembled.. What do i do from there.

I have installed and assembled the whole package, but i can't run the apache server - gives a port already in use error, and i closed all other apps still giving me that error - aswell as i can't make any new accounts it give me an "Unhandled thread exception logged to err.txt
Then another odd thing is that the left side of my GUI is cut off like as if the smaller windows is to large and it's cutting of the sides of it, so I cant click on the down-arrow in the modify Account tab or select a file in the tools tab ? O_o

Ok lets start with your apache problem, ctrl+alt+del then select processes tab and you have a list of the current processes. Now one of these processes is running a server on port 80 and if your using a firewall you can use it to see which one, usually another apache server or possibly skype. Terminate the process with the task manager and see if the gui can start apache. The other issues suggest the installation was less than successfull as it sounds like the initialisation process is failing when you launch the gui. Try installing on a different pc if possible just for reference perhaps. Its impossible to encompass a solution for all machine configurations and clearly the high percentage of successfull installations suggest your issues will resolve when you terminate the processes using resources required by the repaq and its installer.

The solution for this is as simple as close or disable the other program when you need to use Apache. If you don't know what program is using that port, you can use an utility like Active Ports or TCPView for getting the list of programs associated to any active port in the system.

If for some reason you need to maintain the other program running in the port 80, you can change the port number in which Apache will listen for connections. You can use any port number that is not already used by another program between 1024 and 65535 (e.g. 8080, 8000, 10080, 12345...). For doing that open the httpd.conf file and find the following lines (they are located in different parts of the file):

    Listen 80
    ServerName your-server-name:80
and then replace the 80 with the port number you want to use:
    Listen 8080
    ServerName your-server-name:8080

After this you can access to the server using the host name plus the port number separated by a colon, like this:

    http://localhost:8080/
    http://your-server-name:8080/

    Hope this helps...

a simple opening of cmd prompt and typing in ipconfig /flushdns
    should fix it...

    Re: - MaNGOS ~Amber~ Releases 3.x.x

Ok got some progress, I somehow bypassed the error it was giving me when trying to create an ingame account. But I'm still stuck at the "port 80"-problem, I have used my (Kaspersy)anti virus' firewall to check the port that where in use and the only file that was on a 80 (8085 in this case) port was the mangosd.exe - wich I ended then - but still it said port 80 is already in use. So i tried a program i got from googling the problem "Active Ports", but to no success I found myself back on google, I then stumbled upon a page that suggest changing the port it uses with a step-guide. Short and sweet, I looked for the phrase name <Listen 80> and changed it to something else like 8088 but it still said "port 80 already in use" so i tried changing it to 90 but alas, the same outcome.

Thnx for the help so far. =)

Ok For troubleshooting "Why the port is in use..."

Windows XP and 2003 have the tools built-in to determine what process is using a specific TCP/IP port. If you are using some other version of windows, you will not be able to continue as below. But there are still a number of third-party tools available which can be downloaded instead. One such tool that has been used successfully by several people is fport.
you can get it here ----> http://www.albany.edu/its/advanced_tools_fport.htm

From a command prompt, run netstat -o. This will output a list of ports, along with the PID (process ID) that has that port open. The output looks something like:

    Code:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>netstat -o

    Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:80 199.90.113.2:57434 TIME_WAIT 2636
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:80 199.90.113.2:57589 TIME_WAIT 2636
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:80 199.90.113.2:57600 TIME_WAIT 2636
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:80 199.90.113.2:57608 TIME_WAIT 2636
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:3389 12.110.143.84:6473 ESTABLISHED 964
    TCP WEBAPPSERVER2:2325 192.168.0.13:netbios-ssn TIME_WAIT 0

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>

The sample output above indicates that the local port 80 is being used by process id 2636. To determine what executable is running as a process ID, open Windows Task Manager and switch to the Processes tab. Now click on View->Select Columns... On the screen that opens, make sure "PID (Process Identifier)" is checked and then click OK. Now click on the PID heading to sort the entries by PID. The screen below shows that PID 2636 is alpha5.exe, indicating that it is the Web Application Server using port
    80 in this case.

Let me know if it helped...

    Re: - MaNGOS ~Amber~ Releases 3.x.x

Hello I would like to thank shivajiva101 for this awesome release and hard work that your putting into it to make it a great release and being easy to use. I have a question on your current release or any for that matter. I am using a Server 2008 R2 x64 and I am unable to install the Amber program ver9763 Full Setup at all. Now don't get me wrong I have installed the program before on Server 2003 R2 x86 without a hitch but I have moved onto another server and retired the old one. So the issue I am having is it's failing to install the database once Amber has finished it's first install (website, amber, etc...) it goes into the second install and hangs for a bit then fails and this is the the install error that it's giving out
    Code:
    [08:20:25] Loading settings from amber.ini...
[08:20:47] Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts. in test_dbserver_port()
[08:20:47] Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts. in test_dbserver_port()
    [08:20:47] using: server=127.0.0.1;port=3308;user id=root;password=amber;database=mysql
    [08:20:47] using: server=127.0.0.1;port=3308;user id=root;password=amber;database=mysql
    [08:20:47] Error: mysqld-opt [3188] FAILED to respond!
    [08:20:47] Error: mysqld-opt [3188] FAILED to respond!
[08:20:47] Error: app failed @ exitOK check! Please report bug!
and the uninstall error that it gives out
    Code:
    [08:21:55] Loading settings...
    [08:21:55] Loading settings from amber.ini...
    [08:21:55] Settings loaded...
[08:21:55] Please select a version and backup set...
[08:21:56] [Error:] This instance of Setup is running in C:\MaNGOS\v9763\uninstaller BUT
    [08:21:56] [Error:] mysqld-opt was launched from C:\MaNGOS\miniServer\usr\local\mysql\bin\mysqld-opt.exe
[08:21:56] Unhandled thread exception logged to err.txt
(sorry I could not find the err.txt anywhere)
after that it ask if you want to uninstall which hangs and does not uninstall you have to force close the program. I have made sure that mysqld-opt was not floating around before another try and even changed the folder installation location to make sure that it was a fresh folder but I am at a loss. The only think I can think of is that the software does not play nicely with x64? Any help or assistance with the matter would be great and again shivajiva101 thanks again for a great program.

    Re: - MaNGOS ~Amber~ Releases 3.x.x

Hmm nice outage! Next time that happens go to projectamber.co.cc

    Ive added...

    UDB 0.12.0 CS390 + MaNGOS 0.16.0 v9763-v9862

...to the first post for folks not checking my filebeam folder. Enjoy!

    @Knight00011 - I can see that it fails at the port test...conclusion;
mysqld-opt process launches BUT uses a different settings file than the one supplied by the repaq OR the installer is broken. What happens if you install a previous full release? Don't bother extracting dbc files etc. just test if mysql works...

BTW its compiled and tested on x64 so thats defo not the issue...

I have tried again and redownloaded the installation files for UDB 0.12.0 CS390 + MaNGOS 0.16.0 v9763 before the installation I have made sure no previous instance of the installation was on the machine and preformed a system restart with the firewall & antivirus program turned off. It ended up with the same results failing to install in the same spot. I have added the amber.ini file that is being placed when it installes on the server if i'm not mistaken it looks alright.
