Well... I really hate to come in here and beg for help, because frankly, I don't want to feel like I'm wasting anyone's time, but I seem to have a problem.
I tried searching through this thread but I can't seem to find anything on this, and all of my attempts at a fix have failed, so if I'm brining up old history, I apologize -- I just really want this to work :(
Neither my mangosd.exe or realmd.exe will start. It doesn't matter if I try and start them from the AmberGUI or from my windows explorer -- it just fails.
It gives me the error message:
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling this application may fix this error."
I haven't jumped straight into a re-install, considering that this install took forever in the first place, and in order to make sure that my computer would take this install properly the first go round, I made sure to completely un-install MySQL, and Xampp, so I know that this isn't any sort of program conflict.
My SQL databases work fine, as does the website and minimanager (all of which, I'm exceedingly greatful for), however, without my realmd.exe and mangosd.exe I won't be getting very far.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

It's been two years for me here at ragezone, and this, curiously, is my first post. I don't know how to feel about that one. I very rarely find myself in need of help about stuff like this, but I guess I've been out of the MaNGOS game for too long (about 5 months -- a lot has happened in that time, or so it would seem).

Reinstall your .netframework v3.5 sp1 or is it sp2 now...anyways its corrupt or insufficient version. Found this earlier in topic with my reply a couple of posts later...

You know, it seems so simple now that you point it out, that I'm ashamed I didn't think of it, lol.
I just re-installed my OS not that long ago, so it goes to figure I would forget something like .Net updates... *sigh*

Thanks again for the help,and thanks as well for the amazing program. I talked myself out of making something very similar back in the days of 2.0.12 because it would have been far too much work for me to take on alone -- so for you to have gone through and done it -- VERY admirable.

If you follow the updates then probably, but depends on whats released from the db crew and if I feel the need to reassert proper db content in the installer. With that in mind use sqlyog and grab the sql from the log as you change content so it can be re-applied whenever & distributed if you see fit!

I'm used to working with stand-alone SQL installs, so I was wondering... Is there some way for me to change the password this install assigned me? Yes, I know this will be making things much harder for me as I'll have to re-configure the two servers, the realmd, and the website and minimanager, but I'm just really fickle about passwords, lol. Sorry for any inconvience.

Server starts without any errors, but the client seems to doesn't recognize itselve..
the regular wow and the TBC, Wotlk expansions are installed correctly and updated to the 3.0.9
how can i fix this??

you must have installed the patches until 3.0.9, but it appears that u didnt install the LK expansion.
it happened to me - you have to install lk expansion + updates, until 3.0.9

If Palanthas suggestion doesn't work give us a chance by providing conf's/host/realmlist file contents if your sure you have set the correct realmlist.wtfhey,

i did installed both expansions: The BC and Wotlk, and updated to 3.0.9, and i edited te correct realmlist

I am having a problem. I was running the server just fine and it crashed. Now I am getting the an error about the "subst utility".
Cannot creat drive W is the error message in the log.
Any help with this?

This works great! I have setup several private servers over the years and this is by far the easiest and noob friendly install out there! 2 thumbs up!

using stop.bat should solve your problem
Source can be modified to accept 3.1.2 clients but whats the point if the core & db don't support the features? Result would be unstable, a branch of 3.1.0 is currently being worked on, this will lead them to a stable 3.1.x solution. Meanwhile the db devs will be aquiring as much data as poss from 3.1.x Hope that answers your question

i have a question, when u stop mangos.exe from gui, it stop quickly, but if u run it outside gui, it takes forever to shutdown... do u know why that happens? GUI is killing the process instead of making it shutdown?

I am glad to see 380 update fixes alot of stuff and my players & I altready noticed some new things
I hate to say it but that last 7748 core was buggy and unstable.
Almost anything caused my server to crash I had a bad week with that core !
This new core seems stable like most of your repacks

Correct! Its owned by the gui in concept so I kill it...not entirely safe but as ur admin its upto u to save before terminating...its not something you would do without an anouncement anyways if players were logged in.

I have tried rebooting. I have tried the stop.bat. I have tried reinstalling ... msql, visual c++, .net 3.5 and any other application that i thought might have a bearing on this problem. Still when the amber gui tries to initialize i get the "drive w cannot be created".
I uninstalled and or deleted the complete "mangos" folder from drive "C" and tried a complete reinstall of v6766 and v7624 and v7748 and they all failed to create the "w" drive when installing. I get the "subst utility" error.
Where I live we only have "dialup internet access" so the only way I can play WoW is on my home network. I have to go into the shop in town to get any files or programs. I'm very pleased with the Amber Mangos releases. Except for the current problem. I am building a box just for the server but I would like to solve this before I go mad (=
Very frustrating because in my humble opinion this is the best repack available.
