Re: ¤ The Complete PW Package ¤
ok I think that I am almost there. I installed ubuntu 11.10 server and copied all the files from the server install disks, configured all the files and was able to start the server with the ./start.sh with no problems. The only issue I have now is that when I run ifconfig, it tells me that my inet addr is :10.0.2.15. I went through and changed all the ip addresses to that and restarted the linux box and the ./start.sh upon restart.
Here is my problem now, when I try to open a webpage to the server at http://10.0.2.15 or http://10.0.2.15:8443/pwAdmin I get the message that I cannot connect to the address. Also, I am unable to connect to the server with WinSCP at all. I thought I had it going when these issues arose. Any advice on what I should do next? Thanks

I just did the chmod to the PWServer directory and still I get the message Access Denied when I run start.sh

Any other ideas? Thank you all btw for helping. I really want to get this up and running. I have ran private servers in the past of KalOnline and WoW, but this one really has my interest.

Make sure you follow the guide very closely. You should only have to change the IP in one place I believe. Also make sure that Jetty or Tomcat is started before you try going to the pwAdmin page.
Once you have sorted your networking and have established an internet connection on your server then run
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install openssh-server
This will install and ssh server so you can transfer files using something like Filezilla or WinSCP.

Make sure you are not a using a GUI release. Most people that come here with permission problems these days seem to be using some sort of GUI. A GUI is completely unnecessary.

im using the ubuntu 10.04 server LTS amd64 bit the exact one 343 suggested in his guide also anyone have any ideas of the recommended version of vbox to use? 4.1.8 is being a ***** and not supporting anything
Re: ¤ The Complete PW Package ¤
My advice personally AcidRayne would be to ditch VBOX all together. Go download VMware player
VMware Player: Run Windows 7, Chrome OS - Free Download for a Virtual PC
If I remember right you will still need to create an account there, not that it's not free and easy to do...
Re: ¤ The Complete PW Package ¤
VMware is by far the BEST VM software out there !

So the ip that it gives me here, will be the ip that I use in all the places mentioned in the guide and video, such as:

Make sure to 'configure' your servers IP in the following files:
/etc/hosts
/opt/lampp/htdocs/config.php
/opt/apache-tomcat-5.5.28/2/webapps/pwAdmin/WEB-INF/.userconfig.jsp
I made sure that I have the latest version of openssh-server installed, and I see that port 22 is open when I run 'netstat -a'
I will try these though and see if I can get it going. Thanks

Tried with no success. Still unable to get to the registration page when I type in my wan ip address. In the video, it shows 343 typing in just the ip address of the vmware station server that he is running on which was 10.0.0.51 and it was able to access the page just fine. However, when I try to do the same from my win7 browser on the same machine that is running the vbox, I get that I could not connect to the ip address. Please help. I can feel I am so close and probably just missing something small.

Re: ¤ The Complete PW Package ¤
you logged out, and back in as 'root' correct ?
add:
and thank you for the testimonial on how VMware IS indeed better than vbox (I think some people here do not believe me :(:)

yea i have i have even completely restarted vm and logged in as root
Re: ¤ The Complete PW Package ¤
weird... (as can be seen in my video in post #2) provided everything is done as 'root' there should be no need to alter any permissions =\
Is the very first thing you did after installing linux creating a password for root, logging in as 'root' and so on? That's the only thing I can think of, is something (even copying over the files not as root) that may be causing that =\

as soon as linux was done installing i logged into the account it asked me to make during installation typed in sudo passwd root enter password for my account new unix password confirmed unix password logged out then into root and i still get permission denied :/
