The way I've always done it (and it seems to work just fine) is as follows:
-Power on the machine
-Log in as root
-burn/mount the "PW_Client un-packed.iso"
-cd /mountpointhere
-cp * /opt/cpw/files/new
-cd /root/notes/7z/(x86 or x64 respectively)
-./install.sh
-cd /opt/cpw/files/new
-p7zip -d "PW_Client un-packed.7z" (and the wait here is a LONG time {on my build/test VM it's about 4 hours here})
-cd /opt/cpw/files/new/"PW_Client un-packed"
-mv * ../
-cd ..
-rm -R "PW_Client un-packed"
-cd /root
-./.mysql_start.sh
-cd /opt/cpw
-./cpw initial (wait a LONG LONG LONG ass time here too {on my build/test VM it's about 8 hours here})
¤DONE¤
add:
No, not talking about you
yes it takes a LONG LONG LONG ass time
if I am not mistaken it took someone else on here some 20 hours to do it all
ofc it depends on the hardware you're doing it on, but it IS a VERY intensive task...
Using my above method you're uncompressing the entire client (going from 3.29 GB to about 10 GB)
Then when you run CPW initial it is:
-moving the files
-renaming all files and directories in base64
-calculating the MD5 of every file/directory
-putting an entry in MySQL which contains the following data about each file:
*id
*added (yes/no)
*(file) size
*revision#
*MD5 value
*type
*folder (non base64)
*folder name in base64
*file name (non base64)
*file name in base64
and it has to do this for each and every file (about 10.0 GB worth of files) so yes, as you can imagine [depending on how good your hardware is] could take a LONG LONG LONG ass time!
i have a pretty above average system i would like to think its not amazing but its pretty good so hopefully it doesnt take me 20 hours
Edit: also alot of people say it and everyone just does it but why do you have to unpack the .pck files? i know CPW doesnt support them or whatever but why o.o
It indexes all of the files, and for every patch all it does is compare to original/last revision and then pushes that out as a patch.
cpw is basically just a diff patcher...
Yes, but the initial 'build' takes *forever* to do
After that it's a cake-walk though :):
Hiyas Ragezone peeps and a merry christmas.
Ive been trying to add a Selling npc but encountered some difficulty.
It seems that i have a value wrong somewhere.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Ive looked through tutorial that Raindelion posted here http://forum.ragezone.com/f695/noob-...ts-xml-619219/
but still no success.
Infact ive searched and searched..some of the pictures in replies are gone so those responses become useless.
Here are my pictures of SEledit and npcgen.
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4020/...tserverlis.png
SEledit server side
This is where i added npc and did both for server side and client side.
I added a list reference here in line 13 to reference my custom sell list in 40.
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/9...40sellnpcs.png
List 40 for custom stuff
And finally i added my information to npcgen.data
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9717/npcgen.png
npcgen
So i have the npc where i asked npcgen to spawn it..yay!!!
But the npc spawned has a yellow shield above its head and when clicked does not respond verbally, or show a list of things from my custom made list, or anything at all...i may as well click at a wall...
Im not sure what ive done wrong..
Please guide me with all you infinite wisdoms.
Thanks in advance :D:
PS i did upload smaller pics but was too hard to make out text, sorry bout the size but i felt it was necessary.
PPS i did also move the ID and 1108 up one slot to positions 12 and 13 respectively as seen in other npc's but no luck..

My custom npc that refuses to sell me things :(:
Worked out the thumbnail function
Also i did another test and removed the shield (remove id 29929) and did remove the 1108 and put the ID of custom list in slot 12.and even this again in slot 13.but no go..:glare:
Geez this CPW initial is taking forever >.< your were not over exaggerating with the excessive use of the word "long long long ass time" 343 though it isn't all bad tho i managed to get some sleep XD ive been so busy trying to get at least the very basic stuff added and learned like patching and keeping it running editing custom stuff etc etc that i haven't slept much this gave me the opportunity too XD
Anyways my question is i plan on buying something like this
Spoiler:
and was wondering if i should install windows7 on it then do a set up like i have my current comp running linux out of a VM
or should i just make its base OS linux itself know what i mean?
Along the same lines as i posted previous..i decided to experiment with a known seller Fireworks Dealer
I figured because it was empty why not put it to good use and see if i can see anything.
Well well well to my delight i managed to put 7 different sections into it using a modified list that was called from line 12 of my npc firework dealer.
Well its not called firework dealer now  Super Merchant is its new name.
However curiously enough the potion i put in to the modified list to experiment with "13331" did not show.
So this has me stumped why it didnt show.
Im thinking maybe because no price was set..
In which line do i set price? How to do? .
Would this be set in my modified listing :?:
And where/ which line number to put it and what format :?:
Noticed also no other listings in 40 had prices set so im assuming its set in the npc that calls the listing up...but rlly i cant find where.
So close but so far
Please any ideas would be appreciated.
PS i found this and going to try it out..heres hope.. http://forum.ragezone.com/f694/expla...a-rows-711347/
Ronny List 56 npc
YAYness i think ive worked it out.
If i use the pwi database to look up the item by name it gives me the code...which when typed into SEledit will bring up the item.
After checking many known items ive extrapolated that line 7 contains the buy price on the actual item.
Well its 5am here and im tired as hell, so i wont get to test this out till much later...plus my wife is 4.20 now so ima join in
Laterz..
Funny looking over my posts and seeing the learning curve lol.
HP's are good servers too. The one you listed looks pretty good except you would NEED much more ram... I would look / go for one that already had everything you needed on ebay. Primarily the 16 + GB of ram. Small things like HDDs or power cords can always be supplemented later on. I am personally a fan of the v20z (that I've listed on here somewhere else before) because they're nice and small. Being 1u they don't take up much space. I also do like the DL580/DL585 even though they're 4u because they have 4 hot swap HDD bays, 4 CPUs, and are pretty 'beefy' machines for what they are :):
Oh and if you are able to get a REAL SERVER do NOT install windows... Especially for a PW server, windows and a VM is such a waste of resources, and is only really 'acceptable' for build / test server environments :):
as of right now: HP DL580 G4 ProLiant 4x Dual Core 3.2Ghz 16GB Server (882780616011) | eBay is the cheapest plug-n-play unit I see as far as the DL580
This would be a decent buy / with no HDD's: Proliant DL585, 4 x 2.2 GHz Dual Core CPU/16GB RAM. #2 | eBay
This one if you want 'plug-n-play': HP PROLIANT DL585 4x Opt 2.2Ghz Dual Core 16GB 2x146GB | eBay
Only thing to bear in mind about getting or possibly getting a DL 580 or DL 585 is:
- power cord -- does NOT use ('standard') NEMA 5-15 power cord (like this one)
instead it uses one of these P034-010 - 10-ft. 14AWG Heavy Duty Power cord ( IEC-320-C19 to NEMA 5-15P)- Ultra320 SCSI HDDs are NOT as cheap as (E)IDE/PATA/SATA drives that you're probably used to from 'standard' consumer PCs. Unless you are willing to go used. (I would normally recommend going brand new for HDDs myself)
- Unless the server or the drives you order come with the trays, they can be a pain in the arse to find on their own sometimes

The reason why this custom npc wouldnt open for me was because elements and npcgen.data needed to be run through NPC Gen 1.4 with the mob setting changed to NPC
It did the trick nicely and now i have 2 custom npc's, which to be honest is all ile ever need.
yea i kinda figured that but i figured i'd ask. im currently using my desktop to run my server but its only a beta test kinda thing once i go live my server will be ran off of a server lol which reminds meQuote:

i really like this one you link'd i was really looking for something with 8+ GB RAM and at least 3.0+ ghz and quad core this one fits the description and its within my price range lol wasnt gonna go and blow a couple grand on one thanks for your suggestion :D
Well... if you want a server that you can rent/lease from a reliable host for about $250/mo (e.g. Hivelocity (they are nice, after finding out about them I was so happy)), the cost to actually own the hardware is along the lines of several thousand dollars. Many hosting companies do admit somewhere on their website that they aren't making money on you renting a server unless they have you around for at least a year or two.
VPS providers on the other hand... Doing the math with that, it is just absolutely insane how much money they make...
$1000/month server from Hivelocity, you could probably squeeze 380 OpenVZ (since Xen you'd be way more limited) VPS' (512MB RAM ea) on it, sell them for a mere $2.70/mo and you'd be breaking even. Now, tell me, do you see anyone selling them that cheap? (or that dense, just an example) When they sell them at $15-20 they would make $4,700 to $6,600 in profit. Even after a 30% business tax (yes, it normally is that high in the US) $3,290 - $4,620, and that is if you don't invest any of that money pre-tax into the business.
If it weren't for the fact that the VPS market is just utterly flooded with providers, (many of them trying to get by on $5/mo area) and the really reliable companies still have plenty of stock you see why, even as a good business strategy, you won't make any money.
