I've already answered this a few pages back. You need to create the mount point.
mkdir /cdrom
then do the mount command;
mount <path where your .iso is> /cdrom

Using my above method you're uncompressing the entire client (going from 3.29 GB to about 10 GB)
Then when you run CPW initial it is:
-moving the files
-renaming all files and directories in base64
-calculating the MD5 of every file/directory
-putting an entry in MySQL which contains the following data about each file:
*id
*added (yes/no)
*(file) size
*revision#
*MD5 value
*type
*folder (non base64)
*folder name in base64
*file name (non base64)

and it has to do this for each and every file (about 10.0 GB worth of files) so yes, as you can imagine [depending on how good your hardware is] could take a LONG LONG LONG ass time!

It indexes all of the files, and for every patch all it does is compare to original/last revision and then pushes that out as a patch.

However curiously enough the potion i put in to the modified list to experiment with "13331" did not show.
So this has me stumped why it didnt show.
Im thinking maybe because no price was set..

YAYness i think ive worked it out.
If i use the pwi database to look up the item by name it gives me the code...which when typed into SEledit will bring up the item.
After checking many known items ive extrapolated that line 7 contains the buy price on the actual item.
Well its 5am here and im tired as hell, so i wont get to test this out till much later...plus my wife is 4.20 now so ima join in :tongue:

Funny looking over my posts and seeing the learning curve lol.
HP's are good servers too. The one you listed looks pretty good except you would NEED much more ram... I would look / go for one that already had everything you needed on ebay. Primarily the 16 + GB of ram. Small things like HDDs or power cords can always be supplemented later on. I am personally a fan of the v20z (that I've listed on here somewhere else before) because they're nice and small. Being 1u they don't take up much space. I also do like the DL580/DL585 even though they're 4u because they have 4 hot swap HDD bays, 4 CPUs, and are pretty 'beefy' machines for what they are :):Quote:

Unless you are willing to go used. (I would normally recommend going brand new for HDDs myself)
- Unless the server or the drives you order come with the trays, they can be a pain in the arse to find on their own sometimes

The reason why this custom npc wouldnt open for me was because elements and npcgen.data needed to be run through NPC Gen 1.4 with the mob setting changed to NPC
It did the trick nicely and now i have 2 custom npc's, which to be honest is all ile ever need.

Well... if you want a server that you can rent/lease from a reliable host for about $250/mo (e.g. Hivelocity (they are nice, after finding out about them I was so happy)), the cost to actually own the hardware is along the lines of several thousand dollars. Many hosting companies do admit somewhere on their website that they aren't making money on you renting a server unless they have you around for at least a year or two.
VPS providers on the other hand... Doing the math with that, it is just absolutely insane how much money they make...
$1000/month server from Hivelocity, you could probably squeeze 380 OpenVZ (since Xen you'd be way more limited) VPS' (512MB RAM ea) on it, sell them for a mere $2.70/mo and you'd be breaking even. Now, tell me, do you see anyone selling them that cheap? (or that dense, just an example) When they sell them at $15-20 they would make $4,700 to $6,600 in profit. Even after a 30% business tax (yes, it normally is that high in the US) $3,290 - $4,620, and that is if you don't invest any of that money pre-tax into the business.
If it weren't for the fact that the VPS market is just utterly flooded with providers, (many of them trying to get by on $5/mo area) and the really reliable companies still have plenty of stock you see why, even as a good business strategy, you won't make any money.

OK, everything was humming along just fine, edited aa1.jsp to change the announcements, took the server down, rebooted machine, brought it back up, and now the Game Database Daemon (/gamedbd) is not starting. >.<
I had previously edited an attribute on a weapon, but the character loaded just fine and I was able to log in and look at it. Other than that, I have made no changes to the server and cannot figure out what would prevent it from starting.
Not sure on the Database Daemon issue, however after editing aa1.jsp it is not needed to restart the server.
My advice, re-boot again. If that doesn't work, perform a 'hard' shutdown (wait about 15) seconds then power back up... Still no go, then format/start all over/re-install (and/or delete the DB)...
As weird as it is I have had installations that had apparently just 'went bad'... This is part of the reason I have done so many installs. Between being a n00b myself, helping other people install, to the tedious testing of my release to make sure it worked just the way I wanted it to... Up to the 'problem installs'...
A few notes:
- A physical machine is going to be more stable than a VM (should almost go without saying)
- Don't attempt to run on an under-spec'd machine (I recommend at least a dual core 2.2 GHz with 16GB of ram)
- If constantly experiencing problems with possible 'data corruption' (including DB issues) test and (double check) verify the following hardware components - NOTE: DO NOT run these in a VM, run these on the 'host' system if using a VM!
- Run PRIME95 to verify the integrity/stability of your CPU
- Run MEMTEST86+ to verify the integrity/stability of your RAM
You may also want to verify the integrity of your HDD(s)... Just remember - if things get real bad (it starts making you angry enough you desire throwing your entire PC through the window) just start all over at step #1 (installing Linux) :wink: as that normally will solve most problems (except of course the loss of accounts/characters etc)...!

Sure 'credit' is nice but is it really even absolutely necessary? (I know / have heard there are people that take credit for my release as being their own)... You have to manually make .CUP's IF you WANT to... Otherwise just place your new files in /cpw/files/new again (just the new ones / changed ones) and run CPW again to update the shit. Then when ppl log in it will say out of date/update them... As stated, if you want .CUPs you have to manually make those yourself...
Oh. So basically Cpw looks to a mysql database and if its files aren't exactly those 100% it updates? Ok. Thanks. And then what Patcher do I use? Any Patcher? A special one? PWI most current?

I dont really want to read 125 pages of content so forgive me if my question has already been answered. does the server work with java 6 or 7? can i remove the subfolders under /usr/java and replace them with 6 or 7 and start the server or are the paths for the current java hard coded?

You can use 7 if you really want to. 343 only included java to make setup easier.

SO i got everything working finally thanks to everyone and i logged into the pwAdmin page and I logged into game etc etc... but when I went to my admin page "ip of server"/admin i logged in correctly to the admin page, but when I entered the password at the log in bar to turn the server on, it just loads another log in bar and it will not log me in... any ideas?

Update: I have rebooted ubuntu twice, and i rebooted my PC, and I still have the same problem. Like I said before it lets me log in when the log in pop up box comes up, and it sends me to the perfect world site for my server, but when I type in the password nothing happens. 1 - Launch sELedit
2 - select file>load>CN_1.3.6v101 - Client
3 - Make all your edits
4 - Choose file>save as and save your elements
5 - Choose file>export>CN_1.3.6v101 - Client ==> CN_1.3.6v101 - Server
You shouldn't need any other config files than what comes with sELedit when you download it.
And for question 2 you only edit the client side elements and export to server side when done.

Ok, so I got home and I did as you said and I got an error. When I clicked continue anyways it froze with the loading mouse on that screen. I let it be for 5 mins and still nothing. Any idea whats wrong?

thats the one that came with 343's all pw tools pack, do u have the recent one please? or a link to the newest one?
My "ALL PW Tools" is just an archive... I recommend getting my PW_DEV.iso

Pardon me, but after trying to install this for about 7 hours, my monitor is in great danger of being thrown out the window that is exactly 3 ft behind it.
Perhaps I missed the boat somewhere and it is sailing in the ocean looking onward as I swim around in the water lost at sea.
The one single thing I can't get working is the pwAdmin. When I navigate to it through VM, it comes up as a "new file". When I try through the browser address , "unable to connect" .
Now I can get the game itself running. Although it can't connect to the server.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. And yes I've searched this thread and read just about every post concerning the keyword "pwAdmin", and there was one method I though would work, which was setting my connection in VM to "bridge connect" or something, that didn't work.
To put it simply, it is as if pwAdmin does not exist.
Screenshots of when you try to edit the pwAdmin file please. It could be something as simple as an incorrectly typed path.
Also another thing to note is that the url is case sensitive so you must type pwAdmin with a capital A. Also make sure you add the right port to the end of the IP. The following is just an example will vary depending on the how 343 set it up.
